[Imperial] Hyperspace - Krennic or Death Troopers

By player3123857, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Considering a couple options for an imperial hyperspace list. I've been experimenting with Krennic on the Reaper and Optimizing Sabacc (allowing Sabacc to take an evade and still get offensive output on eyeballs). The list I've been trying is Vermeil/Sabacc/Duchess/Maarek.

I thought about substituting in Death Troopers for Krennic and doing something like this:

Major Vermeil — TIE Reaper 49
Crack Shot 1
Death Troopers 6
Ship Total: 56
“Pure Sabacc” — TIE/sk Striker 44
Trick Shot 1
Ship Total: 45
“Countdown” — TIE/sk Striker 44
Trick Shot 1
Proton Bombs 5
Ship Total: 50
“Duchess” — TIE/sk Striker 42
Trick Shot 1
Proximity Mines 6
Ship Total: 49

Does anyone have thoughts on Vermeil with Death Troopers?

Another option might be to abandon Vermeil and crew and add Vader?

Darth Vader — TIE Advanced x1 70
Supernatural Reflexes 12
Fire-Control System 3
Ship Total: 85
“Duchess” — TIE/sk Striker 42
Trick Shot 1
Seismic Charges 3
Ship Total: 46
“Pure Sabacc” — TIE/sk Striker 44
Trick Shot 1
Ship Total: 45
Academy Pilot — TIE/ln Fighter 23

That's a very clever use of Krennic's ability. Good thinking! Have a cookie.

Vader and two strikers looks interesting. You get three pretty decent dogfighters for not many points.

I'd probably rather have upgrades for the 3 aces than a TIE fighter - Duchess and (especially) Sabbac benefit from relatively cheap shield upgrades (benefit of only being agility 2, I guess), whilst either a shield upgrade or afterburners offers Vader a touch more potential than he otherwise might have, especially topped off with Proton Rockets for some punch.

One thing I'd offer warning about is Trick Shot. Trick Shot requires an obscured shot, which (most of the time) requires you to be heading towards a rock. Given a TIE striker's high minimum speed and pretty wide turning circle (for a TIE fighter) that can cause trouble more often than you'd like. Given Sabbac's "use it or lose it" ability, I'd be tempted to go for Crack Shot; if you can land a 5-dice crack shot attack at range 1, it can be game winning but either way he tends to explode fairly early on, so buying him an 'enduring' talent like predator seems a waste.

Predator (offensive) or Elusive (defensive) are both good options for Duchess, and I like the decision to find points for seismic charges. 3 games out of 4 they'll be either wasted points or an odd point of damage at best, but every so often you'll find yourself facing either a swarm or one of those pilots (Dash, Han, Blackout) who just loves playing around in obstacles, and blowing away their cover can dramatically swing the game your way.

Kind of a shame BT-1 isn't hyperspace legal. With Vader as a pilot, shoving the demented lil' gunbot in the gunner's seat of pure sabbac's ship gives a painful boost to its damage potential.

What about this?

Duchess (Predator)

Sabacc (Predator)

Howlie

Iden

Wampa

Fly Howlie, Iden, Wampa, and Sabaac in a jousting block (using 3 forwards and 3 Ks to stay aligned), Flank with Duchess.

My plan is to bring debris fields. Aileron over the debris, gain a stress, dial in blue to clear and still get action. I've liked hiding my strikers behind rocks on defense for the extra green die.

Do you have thoughts on the potential of Vermeil (with Krennic or Death Troopers) vs Supernatural Vader?

I think the Imperial faction looks pretty thin in Hyperspace bit if there is a secret weapon in their arsenal it's Death Troopers.

I don't like Vermeil, though. I think outside of the synergy with Vader crew he's the worst Reaper pilot in 2.0. I'd back Feroph.

Have proximity mines been worth their points in your experience?

I really don't get the potential of death trooper....i have never tried it, should i? compared to phasma (5 points and only 1 crew slot) it seems worst and overcosted. Am i wrong?

Against some squads it may not do much, like an efficiency squad...but against Poe it boba with Han or even kylo it could really cause problems since they typically get stress from just doing their thing. You gotta use it properly but it can cause problems, gaining a stress can be a problem but can be worked around and not shedding a stress is a whole other pain especially since you have to plan as if you can’t know if your gonna be out of range to shed it.

phasma is better against efficiency who want to k turn after being in a ships face, deathtroopers wants to keep ships from using linked actions, both have very good uses

I think vermeil is still pretty good in hyperspace when you have a striker/tie list because you can have several ships fire before him(duchess sabacc countdown howlrunner iden...whoever is in the squad) so the chances your target won’t have a token is very high making his ability trigger very efficiently, so basically you can just use his action to coordinate or evade each turn..making him very efficient

really the generic reaper needs to go down in price because overall the names pilots are easily worth their premiums...but I think you can say that about a lot of chassis
