Double Starfortress list

By Wazat, in X-Wing Squad Lists

How's this for a double-Starfortress list? I have two resistance bombers and dammit, I'm gonna use 'em. :D

Cat — MG-100 StarFortress 64
Trajectory Simulator 3
Seismic Charges 3
Ship Total: 70
Half Points: 35 Threshold: 6
Edon Kappehl — MG-100 StarFortress 69
Skilled Bombardier 2
Proximity Mines 6
Conner Nets 6
Ship Total: 83
Half Points: 42 Threshold: 6
L'ulo L'ampar — RZ-2 A-Wing 38
Marksmanship 1
Crack Shot 1
Proton Rockets 7
Ship Total: 47
Half Points: 24 Threshold: 2

The plan is to have Cat follow behind Edon, who will be swinging his butt around to drop mines on or around targets, and or seeding the battlefield for area control . Mines that don't hit their mark will tend to power Cat's ability. Cat's Seismic Charges and Trajectory Sim are powerful in an obstacle cluster because I have my pick of where to place the area of effect. No idea if this will be legitimately effective; it's been a long time since I flew these lumbering behemoths. :)

Maybe swap Lulo's Prockets for a Veteran Turret Gunner on Cat?

Thoughts?

Or if you don't want to use bombs

Vennie — MG-100 StarFortress 67
Pattern Analyzer 5
Perceptive Copilot 10
Veteran Turret Gunner 8
Rey 14
Ship Total: 104
Half Points: 52 Threshold: 6
Cobalt Squadron Bomber — MG-100 StarFortress 63
Fire-Control System 3
Rose Tico 9
Veteran Turret Gunner 8
Finn 10
Seismic Charges 3
Ship Total: 96
Half Points: 48 Threshold: 6

Okay, that's a neat list. The two games I played today had me wondering if I should sell my second ship, but this looks shiny! It's worth a try before I discount dual starfortress lists.

I really like Rose and Finn together. If only we could add Heroic, but no talent for the SF.

I think I might trade Seismic Charges out to give Vennie Electronic Baffle, just to keep his options open for the round after a stress. Today's experience with Seismic Charges wasn't thrilling. :)

Thanks!

So I've flown the Vennie list four times today. I lost twice yesterday, and won twice today. Yesterday was very much shaking out how it feels to play the ships & combos, learning the dial and strategies, and remembering how to fly large ships almost as though I were not mentally disabled. ;) Man, took me a bit of time.

But a big reason I lost was I faced a mean swarm in both games: 4x Omega Squadron Expert (TIE/sf) with Crack Shot + Special Forces Gunner + Fire-Control System. This list consistently ate through one starfortress very, very quickly (Rose+Finn always get targeted first). I think swarms will always be a horrifying threat to this ship.

Today I fought 4x TIE/sfs again, but with Fanatical instead of Crack Shot and FCS. I did much better against this list, both because I was flying better by then, and because the list was a lot less scary. Crack shot turns out to be terrifyingly effective at shoving damage and devastating crits through, who knew. :) Fanatical is useful, but the dice weren't with him often enough, and I also made sure to kill his ships one at a time when able to avoid unleashing Team Fanatical on my starfortresses. Overall the battle went pretty well.

Fourth battle was against Han Solo and Poe, and they were well-equipped and generally well-flown. However, I managed to bump Han in a bad spot, at an angle in the corner where he didn't dare sloop or bank for fear of going off the board, and couldn't use any other maneuver to get around me, so he spent several turns trapped while I alternated clearing stress with a bumping 1 straight, or double-focus stopping. It was a terrible situation for him, and in the mean time I murdered Poe with my two ships. At some point he gambled with the sloop and just barely cleared it, but by then Poe was dying and I was bringing the Cobalt around for another heavy pass, so Han went down soon too. Also, that player had some terrifyingly bad dice luck; I chock that victory down to dice more than my own competence!

Overall I like the list. It's fun to play, but not at all competitive. At all. I don't think double starfortresses can be. I wouldn't bring it to a tournament, but on casual nights it's just the right level of absurd, interesting, and fun! Thank you, @Trubble !
