Inform the Commander....

...That Lord Vader's Shuttle has arrived.

Trying to make the TIE/x1 work (other than just as 'Vader's TIE Fighter). Key to it looks to be getting that target lock either for free or using a 'wasted' turn 1-2 action. Hence; the Lambda.

  • Colonel Jendon
    • ST-321
    • Darth Vader
    • Electronic Baffle

  • Tempest Squadron Pilot x 3
    • Fire Control System

More or less what you'd expect - turn 1-2 (after people have committed to the initial approach but before the shooting starts) Jendon pops a charge and the Tempests lock up target #1. After the lines engage, Jendon uses Vader to strip tokens and uses co-ordinate to help the Tempests swap targets as required.

Thoughts? Comments? Insults?

Has anyone had any experience with TIE/x1 squads?

I think you can ditch EB for sure.

Here's my big suggestion though:

With Krennic and Tarkin on that shuttle instead, you can approach with 2 options. Turn one you pop Jendon - he locks one target, the Tempests lock the other. As you roll up, if the initial tempest locks will work, fantastic! If not, then you Tarkin them to the other target, and they still have double mods. And subsequent Tarkin uses can preseve the Tempests action economy

That was more because I had two points spare. With a generic squad, a bid didn't seem important, and being able to pull off red moves two turns in a row seemed like a good idea. The other option was Jamming beam, but since Vader does the same job but better it seemed a waste.

I did think about that equipment, but that approach is an interesting one. As noted, Baffle/Vader can swap for the Krennic & Tarkin Ego-Trip Road-Show, which is good for swapping free locks.

I thought about setting up a lock turn 1 then using tarkin to 'spread it out' but was using that instead of Jendon, and that's actually kind of awkward since it happens in the system phase - so it's only useable one within engagement range. Having Jendon to let them pick up locks T1, and Tarkin/Krennic to hold another lock in reserve, and ST-321 to let the shuttle switch lock targets later without having to dedicate an action to it, seems like a good balance.

I'll still want to throw the shuttle's fire into the initial engagement, but having 'just' a focus action makes it no worse than most targets.

It does mean I'm not getting much mileage out of optimised prototype, but that's no big deal.
