Lure of the Expanse - Excess Void Armour?

By Giaus Novus Khan, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Just reading through Lure of the Expanse and whilst it indicates that the new Optional SHip component 'Excess Void Armour' is -3 Man & -2 Speed an takes up space 2/3 and 2 SP - it doesn't tell you what bonus having the stuff grants?

The example ship with excess void armour is Djanko's Dauntless (armour 22)... But by comparing it against a regular Dauntless (armour 19), then taking away that Djanko's ship also has Armour plating as well (+1 armour) do I assume that it only grants +2 armour? That doens't seem much compared to what is 'costs'?

I actually contacted FFG for an official answer to this and a couple of other questions shortly after Lure came out. I posted the questions and answers here. Basically, Excess Void Armor is +3 Armor.

Edit: The Armor Plating component may be an error, I do not have my copy with me to verify the components at this time.

Thanks for that... +3 Armour for the price of -3 Man, -2 Speed, space 2/3 and 2 SP... who in their right mind would get it? sorpresa.gif

Someone who wants to be armoured rather than fast and manoeuvrable... like a light-cruiser or a cruiser, for instance, or a heavily armoured Transport, since they were never going to be running anywhere from a pirate vessel anyway happy.gif

Even then - one shot and it's gone! Not worth it IMHO.

Ship armor does not ablate by the rules; though as a component, I suppose it would be possibly to damage the armor. And it's only useless against lance weapons, which ignore armor. Not every opposing ship is going to actually have lance weapons. ShruG It's another "too each their own" sort of thing.
