Han & Wedge

By Bigdan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all, HNY and all that!

I want to get the OG Falcon on the table, didn’t really use it in V1. What do people think of the following list:

Modified YT-1300 Light Freighter - •Han Solo - 120
•Han Solo - Scoundrel for Hire(92)
Crack Shot (1)
Homing Missiles (3)
•Lando Calrissian (5)
•Chewbacca (5)
•Millennium Falcon (6)
Veteran Turret Gunner (8)

T-65 X-wing - •Wedge Antilles - 75
•Wedge Antilles - Red Two (52)
Outmaneuver (6)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
•R2-D2 (8)
Servomotor S-foils (Open) (0)

Total: 195/200

4 point bid and would actually probably change crack shot for trick shot. Any other Talent to consider?

Thanks

Dan

Wedge is almost guaranteed to die round 1 of firing. Then I don't think Han can do enough work

Depends what you want to use it for. Competitively it won't do well, Han is really good but far too expensive, Wedge will die quickly and Han won't stand much of a chance on his own.

Casually you'll probably have some fun with it though.

Unsure of how effective Veteran Turret Gunner will be. I guess if you fly right down the middle and hope to split the opponents formation...

I like to kite Han around the outside and fly from rock to rock.

A lot of folks mention Agile Gunner as a solid option. I'm not sure if a Gunner is needed, myself. Though when I do use a Gunner, it's Luke.

However, in the search for the perfect Wingman for Han, I may have to use pilot Luke. But when I've used Wedge I had more luck trying to increase his defense. For the 75 pts you are currently at, I'd instead go Elusive/ProTorps/R5 Astro/Shield Upgrade/S-Foils. Extra shield and can repair hull(and no disabled weapons token!), hopefully mitigate incoming fire and still pack a punch.

That would allow you to put R2-D2 on Han and Han really makes R2 shine, especially with Chewy there. Tanky with a crew slot for shields and a crew slot for hull. I do like the Homing missile choice! Mobile Arc to the sides and inexpensive rockets to hunt fragile Aces. I see where you were going with the Vet Turret Gunner, now. Still...

Anyway, just some thoughts. Have fun, Han Solo is pretty great. Expensive, but great.

Indeed. With broadside primaries and forward missiles, you should be able to get a shot pretty easily without needing a rotate action.

I'm not convinced Crack Shot is that useful, since it's locked to the primary weapons AND your bullseye arc.

Lando's cool. If you take an evade if you get 'double blank', you've got a 75% chance of getting at least one evade and a 1/3 chance of getting an evade and something else. That pairs up with the millennium falcon title very well indeed, and chewie means you don't need to 'waste' actions fixing criticals. Getting a lock for the homing missiles may mess up your action economy a smidge, but it's a good option for just 3 points.

I agree veteran turret gunner isn't too crucial. Dropping that plus crack shot nets you 9 points.

Wedge is nice, but:

  • as @Greebwahn notes, he's not exactly tough. R2-D2 is nice, but regen relies on him living long enough to use it. If he goes down, he'll probably die in 1-2 turns, meaning R2 is unlikely to earn his keep bringing shields back. Luke or an E-wing can live long enough to empty out R2-D2's charge pool. Wedge, not so much.
  • Outmanoeuvre is an odd choice. With Wedge already reducing the defender's agility by one, is it worth picking pretty much the most expensive talent going to reduce it again? Any agility 1 or agility 0 ship will completely ignore the effect, and frankly dropping agility 2 again from 1 to 0 is not exactly earth-shaking.
    • It does work with torpedoes, admittedly, which is nice.
  • For the price of R2-D2 you could pack a shield or hull upgrade. You know you're getting an extra hit point out of that upgrade, and you don't need to spend a turn disarmed to do it.
  • IF you wanted, given that Crack Shot isn't so great on the falcon, you could make Han Selfless - that lets you draw a critical off Wedge onto the Falcon (which is [a] tougher and has chewie to repair them for free), letting wedge tuck in beside the YT-1300 and make a head-on torpedo pass.

Therefore, I'd suggest dropping R2-D2 for a hull upgrade for Wedge and upping Crack Shot to Selfless.

Veteran Turret Gunner can get stuffed if required - eating a few points of bid offers Agile Gunner, which is probably more worthwhile.

I'd also observe your bid isn't that crucial - you've got two I6 ships, neither of which is terribly heavy on repositioning. You don't need a bid to move after Kylo Ren, and even with a bid it's not like you're going to outfly Soontir or Vader. If you have points spare, consider trading the veteran turret gunner for upping homing missiles to cluster missiles. Clusters are great for han, since their normal weakness - a lack of dice modification on their bonus attack - doesn't apply since you can get han's reroll.
