Does "Before Fight" trigger when attacked?

For example, Firespitter: if Firespitter is the target of an attack, does it deal 1 damage to each enemy creature?

I know that Fight abilities are only for attackers. Is this any different?

Only for attackers. The "before" is a modifier to the "fight" ability.

If the word “before” is used in an ability (for example, “Before Reap:” or “Before Fight:”), that ability resolves before resolving the game effect of the reap or fight (but after the card exhausts, if exhausting is required to use the card).
