This I agree with. We don't know if there is a lie detector, but if there is, it would help them to have a clear, unambiguous statement such as "I am town" to analyze. Lie detector is the only role I can think of that has to be "prepped" by the participants. If there is no lie detector, then was it all pointless? I'll get to that below.

Either way, I just dislike that way of trying to solve a game.
Footnote: It's also a great scum move to then come out tomorrow and claim Lie Detector, saying you wanted to get the info first and not reveal. It's only a helpful approach if you know for a fact the role is in the game.
I don't know what your experience is, and I'm not sure if I can take your word for it. I don't know why vanilla town would be more willing to participate than power roles. However, in the most recent Mafia game I played (the only game I've ever played with lie detector) Pod, Caldias and GNIP were anti-town. Caldias and GNIP gladly made the "I am town" statement, but Pod was very hesitant. That should have been a clue for the rest of us that Pod was scum.
Also, we got GNIP the next day. So it wasn't completely useless. I don't remember anything about vanilla /power roles being revealed, only alignment.
However, I agree with you that we don't know for certain if the role is in this game. I hadn't thought much about how that might change things. I've never played a semi-open game with Lie Detector. I can imagine that sort of scum move happening as you describe it.
As for the Pod/Ebon showdown going on, I was trying to stay out of it, but one thing I will say is that we have over 40 hours to go. I'm not asking people to unvote, but I don't see a great reason for this train right now. I would like to hear from @TheCallum
