BB-8 charges

But unlike Advanced Sensors, BB-8 doesn’t keep you from taking your normal action during your activation. So you can burn a charge, perform a boost/roll prior to maneuver, and then after maneuvering still take a focus/lock. Or a Focus to Roll linked action if you took a Boost with BB-8.

but The BB astromech can do the same. It's just now for the same amount of charges and only a boost option which quite frankly i dont use that much and havent seen much use of for 8points??? i'd rather save the 3 points.

The other thing BB units allow is to pre-move position on ion moves. Not a common thing ion except that once a game you might do it to yourself. Being able to get boost/barrel roll before your 1 straight and a focus is really really good.

Oh huh, I never realized that. All in all I’ve been really impressed how the ion mechanics work in 2.0 and how they shut down all the things that they’re supposed to (calculate, boost, barrel roll, target lock, and most astromech droids). This is the first time I’ve found something that ions should shut down that got missed.

as for the discussion, I think BB-8 and his generic cohorts are costed with Poe in mind. 3 actions per turn (with both boost and BR included), two of them pre-maneuver, without ending stressed is pretty amazing, especially at i6, even at only twice per game. Try it sometime- I have, and it didn’t feel overcosted to me. Add in primed thrusters and Black One for additional shenanigans.

It's the fact that the ion move was changed from white to blue in 2.0, even if the ionized ship doesn't normally have a blue (or even any) speed 1 straight. I missed it at first, too, and yes, letting Poe turn (a bit) with a BB-8 boost whilst ionized is a big benefit (amongst other things, it helps him recover from a Black One SLAM move better)

I agree it's pretty much specifically for Poe. I guess (since it's another way to get free boosts) Kare Kun might be able to get some mileage with BB-8 himself, but she's not that amazing to start with.

Vader and Super Natural Reflexes doesn't care too much if he is Ioned too. He can "Force" his way to do what ever he wants.

See what I did there :) ... OK that's enough internet for me today.

I still think only twice a game for point cost is a bit limiting and if someone is careful they can guess pretty well where Poe will end up still too many points for just a boost option. because the other thing you have to look at is flyable...187-184 is the point meta currently. for the point cost and how Poe wants to be decked out you are limiting the other ships you want to put in if you want 2 decent support ships you have no ordinances limited point astromechs and basically heroic as an ept not much else, of course, s-foils cause it's free but tech slots are gone. and now you have a decent list but it could be better.

187-184 is the deep bid for i5 or one list containing Soontir. The i6 bid war is much shallower.

I feel like the BBs fall into the same bucket as the R2s - they've been costed on the understanding that they give powerful effects relative to the general 2e curve, and based on their effects being powerful in 1e.

However .

The charge limit does a way, way stronger job of balancing these effects and I don't think it's been accounted for in either case. I think the BBs have it worse, they're a less powerful effect even accounting for the Disarm token on the R2s for a very similar cost, but I do think both are overcosted for the same reason.

3 points for the generic BB seems reasonable to me, given it's basically limited use 1e BB-8 and that BB-8 didn't really see all that much play in 1e. BB-8 probably should be 6.

Bb8 is a maybe 1 or 2 points too steep. But after listening to the mynocks and trying Kevins build out I'm never going back to r4
