Do we think faction limited events would catch on?

Maybe? I enjoyed going to a generics only and an OT only tournament back in 1.0. Both of those and Faction Limited isn’t how I’d want to play every time, but sprinkled in with some more typical tournament options adds a little spice to X-Wing life.

I think the only one that would ever be regularly accepted by the bulk of players at a venue is Rebellion versus Empire. There are distinct groups of people who hate the sequel and prequel eras and will refuse (or be unable) to participate in tournaments restricted to them. That said, would I play in one? Sure. Would I want it to be a regular format? No.

I think there are more interesting restrictions like generic only and others based on type or ship count instead of faction restrictions though.

Sounds like something that might work well for a campaign-themed event.

Battlefield of Yavin is the obvious example from the launch event, but then you've got D'Qar, Starkiller Base, Genosis etc.

Might work to drum up interest in the new factions?

I think cinematic format pretty much covers that.

It is on the part of the App that only OP has access to . I can make any casual format and it is placed under the Custom section of format.

So essentially you are asking for OP to make a more OP format?

No, as should be self evident from the topic, I'm asking would how would you feel about participating in future Organised Play events that are strictly faction limited, as per the examples given above.

The functionality may already be there via the app, but that doesn't tell me your opinion now, does it?

Since those factions are not out yet lets make a few corrections to something that can be done today.

So do you mean a tournament using the Evacuation of D'qar format or are you talking about some sort of campaign? If you want to be simpler you are going to have to be more specific. I am sure plenty of people would be interested if they had the time. I am also certain an Evacuation of D'qar event would be quite fun if executed correctly. My interests would be sure, I would be up for something like that. The only concern is the time constraints (my employment hasn't been very accommodating).

Why run that over a normal event that everybody can show up to?

That's the point a lot of people have been making about Hyperspace evwbts.

The difference being that faction limited events would not preclude owners of the conversion kits from participating with full model counts, and would also - theoretically - encourage sales of those specific factions.

Now, Republic / Separatists I can really see as an OP format. You want to earn the sweet, sweet 2nd edition loot? You fly the new ships. And everyone's flying at the same level when you do.

Battle of Yavin is already used as an OP event with the Deluxe Wave 1 Kit events. Evacuation of D’Qar will probably be Wave 2 events, and probably Prequel for Wave 3

Not in the slightest.

My local shop ran our Battle of Yavin event on a Thursday evening. We were expecting our 6 regular players to attend, plus a couple of occasional players.

We actually got 12, including 3 who'd never been seen before and one still opening his new core set.

My take on this: this event touched a vibe and was more popular than expected. A similar Battle of Endor might also do well. Would other themes?

I, personally, like odd, one-off events. Many players do not. Something with a clear theme from the movies is likely to work better than a random 'this faction vs that faction' event. Pretty much every player will know what Yavin means; but D'qar? That name doesn't evoke anything much to me, I had to stop and think 'oh, was that the name of the planet where they fought that dreadnaught?'

As an occasional thing yes, it's a nice change of pace. As regular events not really, as I feel 2 faction events are a bit too limited in what you can fly.

Since I play scum exclusively, I am not interested

I can only speak for myself, but I have to say "no".

I'm strictly limiting the number of factions that I buy into, in order to regulate the amount of money I am spending on this game.

For any given "faction limited" tournament there is a chance that I will not own anything for any of the allowed factions; in which case I would not be able to participate.

The idea of not being able to attend a tournament I might otherwise play in due to faction restrictions (regardless of how arbitrary or thematic they may be) is not something I want to happen.

I don't think I am alone in this: the financial cost of 2.0 is enough that it requires a not insignificant financial commitment to play multiple factions.

I don't usually go to organized events, but it may be worth it if I knew I wouldn't have to play against Scum (...other than Rebel scum, of course).
