Trying to use Wide Area Barrage

By Admiral Theia, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I wanted to find a way to use WAB, and last night it hit me just as I was going to bed. I stayed up for a bit making the following list. Maybe we can refine it? Is it worth the effort?

Luke hides in the 75, which uses a token to drop him off, he shoots the target for (hopefully) a crit, then the ship unloads a barrage on the ship from both arcs, hopefully putting 4-7 damage on a nearby ship that can be hard to kill (such as a flotilla or small damage dealer.

Sato 75 (395/400)
Rebels

Commander: Commander Sato

Objectives: Fleet Ambush, Advanced Gunnery, Intel Sweep

[flagship] MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100)
- Commander Sato (32)
- Electronic Counter Measures (7)
- Rapid Launch Bays (6)
- Bail Organa (7)
- Expanded Launchers (13)
- Wide-Area Barrage (2)
- Ordnance Experts (4)
= 171 total points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
- Hondo Ohnaka (2)
- Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
- Ordnance Experts (4)
= 49 total points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
- Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
- Ordnance Experts (4)
= 47 total points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
- Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
- Ordnance Experts (4)
= 47 total points

GR-75 Combat Retrofits (24)
- Bright Hope (2)
- Comms Net (2)
= 28 total points

Squadrons (53/134):
1x Tycho Celchu A-Wing Squadron (16)
1x Shara Bey A-wing Squadron (17)
1x Luke Skywalker X-Wing Squadron (20)

Possible mods:
-Leia on the GR-75 (especially if the second change is made)
-Drop Luke for three z-95’s to clear the area of fighters when they pop out of the 75 (they do kill other fighters pretty decently when paired together)
-Drop Hondo purely for the points (or to pay for Leia and still keep a little bit of a bid)
-Drop all three HH’s for a similarly kitted out MC75 and a Strat Adviser.
-Drop the 75 for a Pelta and just play Shmitty’s list, lol.

What do you all think?

Any thoughts from the crowd?

I think having so few fighters runs counter to using Sato, if they die, he's useless and if you save Luke for that one double shot from the MC75 thats quite a price to pay for one turn of firing.

I think WAB on the Hammerheads and other small ships (maybe drop the 75) and more fighters with a death by a thousand cuts approach might work better. But TBH i dont play Rebel scum so I dont know them very well.

My idea I just had while writing this would be a couple of Glads (with WAB obviously) being supported my an Interdictor with Targeting Scrambler. Just a thought. It would be gimmicky at best Im afraid though 😐

I like the synergy with Luke a lot, not for bombing the ship the 75 is shooting at but for hitting the WAB target. He’ll boost the damage from “flotilla/scatter ace-killing” to “CR90/Arquitens on a good day.”

If you go thousand cuts WAB is just a cheaper, lame version of ACM, because your target will die with no shields whatsoever and it’s situationally harder to focus fire unless the target is big and centered, which means you’d rather just shoot it anyway.

Yeah. I feel like WAB should be for big damage so you can punch the shields and score some hull damage. Do 4 then 3 with it and you’ve nearly crippled most small ships. Luke is just to get in a card (preferably on the WAB target rather than the main shooting target, to make killing it more likely), with a crit being gravy.

I would drop in a HWK with Luke, to make sure he can hit the ship. Your opponent can anticipate the Luke drop and even with Bail, you might find there is no spot to drop him that is outside the fighter screen.

The other use I could see for WAB is for flak support. Put it on everything and deal a couple of points of unblockable damage to those annoying aces. It's not the greatest idea in the world, but I guess if your meta has a lot of squadrons, WAB gives you more options than ACM?

Find points for dcaps on the hammerheads if you can. Obstruction can ruin your day at long range otherwise.

I had that thought, but one use for an extra shot/die doesn’t justify what I’d have to take out, I felt. I just have to rely on my nav ability.

I'm also tweaking a Sato list at the moment and I'm considering dropping DCaps (on 4 hammerheads in my case). It's not so much the one-use aspect rather than evades killing the damage at long range anyway, so maybe I should invest those 12 points elsewhere and just navigate to medium. or close range. Still on the fence about it. I feel like depending on what you're flying against, you might want one or the other option.

DCaps also boosts you from a 68% chance of getting that crit to an 82% chance (assuming a long range Con Fire.)
