HYPERSPACE , They are fast, They shoot, the drop bombs?

By IgotTargetlocked, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey

For the Hyperspace format i will mainly focus on my Kylo/Qd/Null list but i would like to dust off the old Striker, Ive flown strikes allot, i love them. And now with the ability to drop bombs, i think they are even more intressting.

The question is how you build them for effectiveness.

They lost the the Lightweight frame. so i think the best action for survival is going to be the evade action, So i will pair that with Juke.

so this is the main body of my list

Black Squadron Scout — TIE/sk Striker

38

Juke

4

Proton Bombs

5

Ship Total: 47

Half Points: 24 Threshold: 2

I will run 3 of them.

Then it comes to who will be the ace. Im thinking about adding one of 2 oppitons

Pure Sabacc 44 Points

Lone Wolf 4

Proton or Charges. So that lands the list at 193/194 Points

Or

Mareek Steele

Rutless

FCS

Cluster

That lands me at 200 with noo bid.

What do u think of the lists?

would you add another ace insteed of Mareek or Pure Sabacc?

Or go down to 3 P-Sentinels with Protonbombs and Vader with Super Nats for 199 Points

Dont use marrek, if you really want to he needs a ship coordinating him so he gets target lock focus. If his action is to lock then he is my target with no focus no evade.

I think shield upgrade is ok on pure sabacc. I'm gonna try out strikers today.

I think another Striker is best for the Ace, but not with LW...

That way they can fly together well

Thing is, whilst evade is nice, it's a bit of a waste if you're not shot at. By comparison, Juke is good if you're not shot at before you shoot, which (sadly) is quite likely with low initiative scouts. Plus, it's a relatively pricey talent compared to predator or crack shot.

3 ships all with proton bombs is a big investment in bombs. A striker is not especially tough and you can expect to see at least one go down in flames with bombs still in the racks. I don't think bombs are unusable - I think they're a great option - but I'd be hesitant to load out with them en masse on an already pricey veteran generic.

Lone Wolf is cheap and effective. The problem is that it requires you to leave your allies behind - it's best for a flanker or a last-man-standing. Whilst fun to fly, strikers are not fast enough to be a flanker - they're manoeuvrable but their 'dead run' speed is a speed 5 straight equivalent - the same as a basic TIE/ln, and with the best will in the world an agility 2, 4 hull ship is not going to be solo-ing an entire enemy squad. Plus, for the price of proton bombs (and some change) you could take a shield upgrade - that makes Sabacc tougher but critically ALSO makes it harder to remove his extra red die - making it much more likely that he'll get one (more) 4-dice shot off before his ability stops working.

Um.

I like Maarek Stele because of who he is (narratively) and an I5 pilot for 50 points is nice. His ability pairs incredibly well with Advanced Targeting Computer, too.

Cluster missiles can go die in a fire though. The TIE advanced already has a 3-dice attack if it's got a target lock, so all you're getting from the expensive missile is the option of a (probably unmodified) 3-dice attack at a second nearby target if you want to burn charges at double rate. Ruthless is great but only if you have expendable minions to use it on - and a 47 point, 4-hit black squadron scout is not expendable enough .

Suggestions?

Try fielding strikers en masse. Properly en masse.

Fighter-Bomber Swarm:

  • Planetary Sentinel x 3
    • Proton Bombs
  • Planetary Sentinel x 2
    • Skilled Bombardier
    • Proton Bombs

Minelayer Swarm:

  • Planetary Sentinel x 5
    • Proximity Mines

Heavy Fighter Swarm:

  • Planetary Sentinel x 5
    • Shield Upgrade

If you want to try Black Squadron Scouts, keep them acceptably cheap - nothing you can do will make them that tough.

  • Black Squadron Scout x 3
    • Crack Shot
    • Seismic Charges
    • Hull Upgrade
  • Maarek Stele
    • Ruthless
    • Fire Control System
    • Homing Missiles (so he can lurk relatively safe at range 3 for the opening engagement, when - as noted by @Blademaster72 , he's quite vulnerable)

Range 3 is not safe, be out of ark.

hmm, I think i might try out some of the list ! Thanks for the tip! I rly struggel to come up with a good list for the Empire, The first order Eazy! Just put kylo in with enough support to get him to the endgame. But the Empire. hmm,.

I agree, and it's good advice in theory but the TIE/x1 isn't that much more manoeuvrable than, say, an X-wing. Plus avoiding arcs of fire at range 3 is a lot harder than at closer ranges.

If you're going to have to move and pick up a lock (and hence not focus to enhance your green dice) then at least being at range 3 with a 4th die is better than nothing.
