so looking over the adepticon rules for the tournment it says that it must comply with their "all models MUST be WYSIWYG and standard 3- colors paint rule", when you look this up it specifically says

ALL models, for ALL game systems must be painted to a 3 -color minimum standard unless otherwise specified in the event rules. This means that an honest attempt to paint all models MUST be exhibited and that 3 colors have not been simply applied to circumvent this policy. Judges have the final say in what constitutes the spirit of this policy.

don't get me wrong i understand alot of these rules steam from the warhammer gaming time, but with stormtroopers that seems a little out of place. does anyone who have attended adepticon or knows someone who works at adepticon knows if this rule is enforce and also will they do this for legion where alot of troops are 2 colors sometimes.

If your Stormtroopers are painted to Canon or Canon quality it will be fine.

Stormtrooper white along with black on the gun and the other black parts plus highlighting will more than likely be enough to take care of this.

I'm guessing that well-painted and based stormies will pass muster regardless, but also don't forget that they have tiny bit of blue on their helmets, that you can make the guns bluish-black, that the leader has a pauldron that can be interesting colors, squad markings could be a thing, etc.

3 colors is actually a really easy standard to hit, even with stormtroopers.

Once you include a modicum of shading and/or highlighting anything can be 3 colors pretty easily.

It’s Black on the helmet if you’re painting them to Episode IV accuracy 😳

Not sure if it's the same now, but years ago paint on the base counted as one of the three colors. So you could do white, black, and then paint the base green or brown. If course, flocking would cover it but would still work.

Assuming of course that someone painted the base instead of leaving it well enough alone.

its not even the fact that yeah the 3 colors could be achieved easy, unless your doing the infernal squad colors (red and black) its the fact that this is a requirement for this tournament, what about those people who suck at painting and just have naked troops to play and rather have them to play in all tournments. with this being the only way into world championship this shouldn't be a requirement at all. specially since its not one from FFG.

Not true. On the side of the helmet they have the series of small stripes that are actually a dark blue. Case in point, straight from the movie:

that is black on my screen.

I think they are actually dark blue but it is hard to tell in that picture. They do have dark grey vents above the visor as seen here.

Would the basing count as a color? In which case, you’ve got three right there between white, black, and whatever your base is.

They both actually look dark blue to me, especially the bottom photo, which to me is clearly blue. Look at the lenses or the mouth, then at the stripes. They are not the same color, so I would conclude the stripes are dark blue.

But I don't have photoshop, so I am also using the eye test like you!

The Black Series full-size helmets used blue stripes, for whatever it's worth, as do the 6" figures. Blue seems to be the more or less accepted color.

I guess this is new ground for FFG players but seriously don't stress. Nobody is counting the colours. The intention of the rule is literally just to ensure that armies are painted, based in some fashion and on the table. If you literally just sprayed them white, inked them and painted the base green the TO wouldn't have an issue at all. They just don't want bare plastic or undercoat only.

The bluest color I got off the original picture was #393655, the rest being darker or grayer blues.

The first picture here showed very dark blues like #071726. The lighting looks kind of bluish, and sampling off his black headband gave a dark purple.

The second picture was much more obviously blue #3c4c59.

It's a very dull and dark looking blue, but I'm pretty sure those props are all using blue stripes.

I was under the impression the colors were black and white, and I don’t base for aesthetic reasons, so this was a real concern.

the other thing is FFG does state in their rules they don't care about the painting for tournaments there is no requirements for them.

If you dislike painting miniatures, I hear that the vast majority of all games and pastimes don't use miniatures.
