Using medium bases in 1.0...any thoughts?

By Vellcrow, in X-Wing

I am not converting to 2.0 just yet, but I am considering using medium bases on the appropriate ships (TIE Punisher, U-Wing, etc) with 1.0 rules.

Any suggestions on changing/modifying the rules with the new sized base? Would just changing the base size cause any severe game breaking issues?

Seems fine to me...

The only thing I'd watch out for is the "large-base only" or "small ship only" cards from 1.0.

Treat ARCs as small base.

Treat Us as large.

Etc.

We were playing 1.0 with medium bases at home, to get used to them. As long as you apply large base rolls and (edge case) decloaks, there were no issues at all.

But yeah, small/large base only upgrades would need to be house rules.

Totally recommend it, I'm loving the mediums.

What's the difference in size between the 1.0 large bases and the 2,0 medium ones??

A medium is 1 and a half small bases.

When it came to upgrades or anything else that had a small ship/large ship only tag, we would apply it to whatever size the ship was originally.

I am still disappointed the Infiltrator is not a Medium base ship. I am not a fan of Large bases, but I love the Infiltrator... Conundrum.

But to your topic, house rules for upgrades and you should be all good.

the Arc is larger than a U-wing though? i would just house rule the specific problrm cards like autothrusters

ARC is wider, maybe, but the size treatment is for game-balancing per the devs intent.

1.0 U-Wing was balanced as a Large Base ship, and as such has access to "Reinforced Deflectors" and Targeting Jammer" (or whatever the "your ship may obstruct attacks" card is called), and CAN NOT use "small base only" cards like "Deadeye".

The inverse applies to the ARC.

Etc.

However, all this is simply information... If you're already playing altered 1.0 rules at home, nobody is stopping you from making it however you like it. ;)

Cheers!
