YT1300 Light Freighter

By Tzargotha, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello,

Quick question, direct from the rule book I am presuming the guns are top and bottom (like the Millenium Falcon)?

Also in Star Wars a New Hope I am sure Han fires warning shots from guns above the cockpit, are these a addon or should I put them on the players ship as standard?

Best wishes,

LT

The weaponry should be mounted to the dorsal (top) and ventral (bottom) sides.

Which scene are you referring to when Han fires warning shots?

when the TIE fighters are heading to the Death Star (the MF jumps out of hyperspace into the Alderon system). I am sure Han fires two warning shots.

I am fairly sure he doesn't (at least in the cuts I've seen, it's a big galaxy out there, so who knows) but to answer your question, the dorsal and ventral guns have a fire arc all, so they should be able to be fired from the cockpit at a target in the front arc no problem. No additional guns needed.

In fact, baring specific maneuvers and/or house rules, you'll find that fire arcs on small ships mean almost nothing, as the rules assume you're constantly flying/shifting arcs during space combat.

I think you're referring to A New Hope and in that scene, the Millennium Falcon is actually TAKING fire from the Tie Fighter.

The stock YT-1300 comes with two turrets, each mounting a single Medium Laser Cannon. (As aforementioned one on the Ventral side and the other on the Dorsal side).

The movies also demonstrate that the Millennium Falcon has a ton of upgrades and modifications.

Again, in A New Hope the Millennium Falcon is sporting two quad cannons, and these represent a substantial increase in Firepower from the Han Solo movie.

In the Empire Strikes Back , we see that one of the Hard Points has been devoted to a Personal Scale Light or Heavy Repeating Blaster Rifle.

Later in Revenge of the Jedi (Original and better working title) the Falcon fires a series of either Proton Torpedoes or Missiles. Yet another upgrade.

As the GM, feel free to modify the starting starship to fit your needs and desires. In my first EotE campaign, the GM handed us a ship that was quite similar to the Millennium Falcon (not exactly the same, but similar enough) and each upgrade did have a relevant back story.

So Han did shoot Greedo first, but he didn't fire on the TIE Fighters first.

I always thought those were shots from the TIE fighter striking the Falcon before it roared overhead.

Regardless, Han was talking as though he was about to blast it; and nobody was in either of the gunwells. In the video game X-Wing Alliance, the gun turrets could be locked forward and fired by the pilot; which is what I assume was going on.

There is a much better eote legal starting ship in dawn of rebellion it's the kst-100

That line is a pretty good indication of the problem with the KST100: It's just a little bit broken.

At the very least the Silhouette should be 4 rather than 3 (I believe it's described as having individual cabins for the passengers), and even then the thresholds seem a little high for it's speed.

there are other ships that meet my requirements, just not 120K or less so you can't start with them. other than star fighters, there aren't a lot of speed 4 or higher ships in the game, few that go for 120K or less, and those that do, none but the KST-100 and I think Firespray comes with guns stock. Also wanted sensors greater than close (so short or longer) and wanted 40 enc or more and the ability to carry 4 or more people (which rules out starfighters).

I can easily mod the hwk-290 and hwk-1000 to meet my requirements by adding guns, and with the hwk-290 I'm pretty sure that you can buy the ship AND add the guns for under 120K but rules say you start with a STOCK ship (as in no mods).

I would have set the silhouette at 4 myself, and if that was the only change it'd still meet all my requirements.

I think that the Firespray states it's passengers are prisoners so no on that front.

looks like I missed a couple of others that meet my minimum requirements

From Viluppo I found these

Lancer Class Pursuit craft... this one I like a lot, I forgot all about it... it's great for modding with the rules in Fully operational, strip off the hull replace it with a high capacity hold and you're <tony the tiger voice>GREEAATTTT</tony the tiger voice>

YT-1760 (but it has armor 1)

YT-1210

YG-4400

Vangaard Industries pathfinder scout ship (but it's ugly)

CEC WUD-500 Star yacht (but it has armor 1)

so there are actually 5 good stock choices (I retract the ONLY statement) if you ignore appearances.
