They could always just make it so that the atromech has a number of charges like an R2 that gives you a limited number of reloads. Makes it not great on the Y-Wing but decent on a X-Wing, or E-Wing if you wanted to focus on ordnance. Would probably be really strong on Luke though.

2 charges and as a non-faction locked generic? I'd like that, sort of. I think Poe with it would be more of an issue than Luke, not that Luke would be pleasant.

IIRC of the SWRPG and novels, there was no B-wing versions that got an astromech slot. So getting one in game's a little out

Yeah, the B-Wing (per lore) didn’t have any astromech slots. Instead it had an advanced navigation system, which is why in X-Wing it gets the system slot.

I'd definitely be happy with a generic Resistance Astro that added the Calculate action, and perhaps a named variant that grants a calculate token when the ship it's on gets coordinated...
I'd love to see a return of R2-F2, after a fashion. The 1e version of granting +1 Agility was and remains meh. However, how about a unique droid R2-F2 that just granted a White Evade Action?

Give her something not a million miles from Iden Versio's ability, but only affecting the ship she's equipped to. Make sure it's a charge-based ability, so Jess could instead use the charge for her own ability.

Mix and match. Let it give you an evade action (maybe white, maybe red - depending if you want equipping debris gambit as well to still add something to the ship) but add the rule "when defending, if you are evading, you may roll an additional defence die".
