We Weren’t Expecting Special Forces

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Trying something different. I expect to play a lot of Advanced Gunnery. Thoughts?

Name: LOL (Lots of Lambdas)
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Admiral Sloane

Assault: Advanced Gunnery
Defense: Fire Lanes
Navigation: Minefields

Imperial II (120)
• Admiral Sloane (24)
• Governor Pryce (7)
• Boarding Troopers (3)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Leading Shots (4)
• Quad Battery Turrets (5)
• Avenger (5)
= 175 Points

Quasar Fire II (61)
• Agent Kallus (3)
• Flight Controllers (6)
• Ruthless Strategists (4)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Squall (3)
= 81 Points

Squadrons:
• 5 x Lambda Shuttle (75)
• Mauler Mithel (15)
• Dengar (20)
• Zertik Strom (15)
= 125 Points

Total Points: 381

I love it, I will steal it without a second thought! :D

Although it seems you have the point to swap Zetrik to Vader. I don't think you need a bid that high.

Looks fun! I would probably prefer Thrawn over Sloane, but I admit that is a personal preference. Sloane doesn't interest me as a commander for some reason. Which is odd because I love rerolls (a la Vader).

Do you have a plan for facing Slicer Tools? Would you still want to be second player if your opponent had Slicer Tools?

Probably. Slicers don’t stop Strategic movement or any of the objectives, and assuming they’re needed, 4 out of the 5 chip AA sources are only moderately affected (Mauler, Dengar counter, red flak, RS, the fifth being squad attacks.) Sloane is really just a buff for AG and burning scatters a little faster, which is nice but not crucial.

That said I have a Thrawn version in the works (probably with Vader over Zertik,) in part to have nav commands for controlling engagement and QBT use.

Any reason you're not maxed out points wise? If you're going for second player why the need for the bid?

I’d rather they don’t give me first upon seeing five shuttles and an ISD without Gunnery Teams (serious bomber lists or MSUs in particular have incentive to do this.) If they do it’s still Sloane two ship of course, but I didn’t build this nonsense to win in a normal way. 😁

Love it.

Can't wait to Nose Punch it ;)

Alright, it’s definitely going to be Thrawn if I ever see Calgary. Questionable squad ball vs questionable squad ball. 😁

And Thus, I achieve my personal goal of de-proliferating Sloane in the Hothgary Meta.

Good Job, Me :D

Lols.

Oh you didn't realise the full power of the Daaark Si... Lambdas. They work with Sloane on anti-ship attack ^^ Wombo-Combo!

Black will fit in if you want. I dont believe in QBTs on a Pryce ISD. Broba does though.

Let us know how it goes.

What would you recommend instead?

Hey @The Jabbawookie did you try this?

You know, I never got around to it. I’ll make a battle report Thursday night.

Can't wait! I think this is one of the most unique lists I've seen, and I think it could really work well.

I agree with @Ginkapo here. Pryce and BTs you are going to be trying to fly in quick and close so not likely to get much use of QBTs. Better to take X17s or even H9s. If you only manage to get Sloane on the brace or evade it means the redirect isn't going to do much.

I'm also not so sure on BTs with a Sloane fleet. You could just take Ruthless Strategists again to make the flak even more annoying.

Squall also works quite well with Strategic and objectives where you claim a token upon revealing a dial as Squall kicks in before you reveal the dial. You can move a Lambda, move the token into range 1 of the Quasar and then reveal the dial to claim the points. And then you can move the Lamda again later to shift the token once more. You should be able to get the 80 or 75 points from Salvage Run or Intel Sweep respectively. Sensor Net unfortunately doesn't work so well with only 2 ships so I can see why Minefields is a good choice too.

Interesting fleet - curious how it flew (don't know how I missed this thread first time around...!)

Here’s the current iteration. My brain says Zertik + Boosted Comms, but my heart says Vader. It’s also, in all honesty, a good thing a mirror match is unlikely. Losing the RS QF-2 is sad, but Most Wanted is a lot safer by virtue of allowing Gunnery Team, even if they don’t pick it. And the Gozanti can toss nav tokens to help control timing of engagement.

Looks great! I might take inspiration from this for tonight’s test (probably with Maarek and Mauler, because, you know... Maarek and Mauler.)

...Is it cheating to run only 2 Lambdas? I have an idea...

I wanted to put Maarek in there, but I felt like it was almost betraying the whole idea, because it is just reducing the ball of crazyness to a glorified Maarek + Jendon and TIE fighter list. Have a go at it... I also forgot to put objectives that really work well with strategic. I would assume that you might want to token farm a bit...

What is your idea?

Well, the Kuat is just great, and doesn’t even need to throw squads all the time if you kit out the Quasar. The fighters are there to bomb and tank rather than win fights against anything bigger than an MFC. It’s painful to not bring Dengar, even with good escort coverage. The points could be freed with Valen/Saber and Black over Zertik and Mauler.

Honestly I don't think Grint is worth it here. I mean it would be nice to push 6 squadrons, but I don't think you will need to activate the 8th squad with a ship. I think suppressor would be a better fit to help strip those pesky tokens away. I assume you know this, but suppressor works against all ships that move into him, so he can do a lot of work against Thrawn 2 ship or Sloane, where there is hardly any tokens...

Here is my take on this squad ball. I only put in 2 Lambdas to give it more teeth, but the good thing is you can drop boosted comms in this list because you can relay very far using both Lambdas. I have been using Sloane phantoms now for a while and can say with certainty that they are quite possibly the BEST sloane squad. I even sometimes Jendon Whisper over Stele! 😧

• Maarek Stele (21)
• Colonel Jendon (20)

Hello guys,

Well i follow this post from 1 week (and france ;) ) and think this is a really good one.

Just one thing the two last lists seem to move away from the original idea. So I haven't try it yet but i will this my thought about it

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 397/400

Commander: Admiral Sloane

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Fire Lanes
Navigation Objective: Salvage Run

[ flagship ] Imperial Star Destroyer Kuat Refit (112 points)
- Admiral Sloane ( 24 points)
- Avenger ( 5 points)
- Governor Pryce ( 7 points)
- Boarding Troopers ( 3 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Leading Shots ( 4 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 165 total ship cost

Quasar Fire I-class Cruiser-Carrier (54 points)
- Squall ( 3 points)
- Flight Controllers ( 6 points)
- Expanded Hangar Bay ( 5 points)
- Expanded Hangar Bay ( 5 points)
= 73 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

1 Dengar ( 20 points)
2 Lambda-class Shuttles ( 30 points)
1 Darth Vader ( 21 points)
1 "Mauler" Mithel ( 15 points)
1 Whisper ( 20 points)
2 TIE Phantom Squadrons ( 28 points)
= 134 total squadron cost

So you keep the two shuttle for farming token+ the phantom ball can strike ship and squad. Maybe it's even better cut Whisper for a regular phantom but back 3 Lambdas and RS on the Kuat ?

So anyway this is kind of list i Like Good Job finding it ;)

Let me know what u think about ma contribution.
