A Wing + Primed Thrusters + Composure

By irishthump, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Guys just wondering if the above combination can be used in the following way....

A Wing performes maneuver, performs an action which triggers the ship’s Refined Gyros ability, attempts red boost which fails to trigger composure and gets a focus with no stress. Can the A Wing’s ability trigger again off of the free focus action from Composure?

No, because you can't perform a Focus with Primed Thrusters.

You gain a stress token from the failed Boost Action, which locks out Composure.

Yup; failed red actions give stress, which breaks the chain.

You could, however, attempt to roll, fail, trigger composure for a focus, then gyro for a rotate or boost (and as noted in the other thread, if you rotate and have primed thrusters, gyro off the rotate for the boost as well).

Thanks for the replies guys, for some reason I thought failed red actions didn’t give stress!

That's because, initially, they didn't.

That got changed rather sharpish for an FFG rules query. Got abused a fair bit before the change too.

Confirming what was said above with citation. As of version 1.0.2 of the Rules Reference they added this line under Fail on p11:

• After a red action fails, the ship gains a stress token.
