60 pt. Silencer VS 75 pt. Defender

By Bucknife, in X-Wing

Im all about efficient generics.

I1 silencer with Optics is 60 points.

4 hull + 2 shields + focus

VS

I1 Defender with FCS is 75 points.

3 hull + 4 shields + free evade + FCS rerolls.

How do we fly these, and why? How do they fit in their respective factions, and how do they effect the strategies of their squad mates?

I say, you want to get aggressive with that focused silencer and take hits. Make them take you seriously, and go down in a blaze of glory.

The Defender is obviously more sturdy, but especially useful for absorbing a torp alpha. He could be Vader's best shield-bearer. Maybe?

Oh yeah. And then I1 blocking everyone, too.

EDIT:

An Alpha Interceptor at I1, with hull and shield, is 49 points.

That's 11 less than our optics engineer.

So, maybe the question is, "Is Optics for offense, Tallons instead of sLoops, an extra shield and a blue 5 straight worth 11 points?

so this entire premise i can see is going downhill fast

The Delta Defender is bad. Sure, it's good at surviving. The problem is that it doesn't do enough damage for its points.

An Alpha interceptor with 2 filled mods is bad. Modifications are deliberately overcosted due to the fact that so many ships can take them, and they aren't supposed to be auto include (IE- shield is debatable on Soontir, it's trash on alphas, and you could have 5 alphas and Wampa instead of 4 of those 3/3/4/1 Interceptors. ) Look at the TIE/FO. It's just 5 points over the TIE/LN and it gets a shield, target lock, and a better dial. It's still mediocre.

Silencer generics are bad. We know mods are overcosted, and a Silencer is a TIE/IN with 3 mods gued to it and a worse action bar. Comparing to the TIE/LN and the TIE/FO, the i1 generic silencer should cost 48, and the i4 should cost 54. The viability of the silencer in our current meta will be determines solely by Supernatural Kylo.

Is this the death of two generic silencers and QuickDraw ?

Okay, you might not be wrong about the generics. Pretty decent arguments all-around.

I guess the main point I like about the Optics Engineer is that he can fit next to SupNat Kylo, with 41 points to spare.

Most people don't seem to be talking about double silencer +1, and this setup could be an option if flown on purpose.

Personally, without looking too hard at the other named FOs, I'd take an Omega Ace with Fanatical and Hull upgrade.

But that's just my style.

You do you, @Kaptin Krunch .

the issue with the Optics Engineer is that this ship exists as well, and in the same faction.

Zeta Squadron Survivor (Special Forces Gunner, Advanced Optics)-48

It's in a different price bracket entirely (41-50 vs the 51-66 bracket that the Engineer is in) and it's just as good, if not better.
