Quickbuild card Zari (RZ2 Awing) + Outmaneuver

By GreenDragoon, in X-Wing Rules Questions

We need a ruling by FFG on that one.

Outmaneuver: While you perform a forward firing arc attack, if you are not in the defender's firing arc, the defender rolls 1 fewer defense die.

RZ-2 Awings have no forward firing arcs, so they can never use Outmaneuver. All they have are turret arcs that can face forward or backward. But that doesn't count. [Why not?]

This means either the Quickbuild card needs adjustment, or the rules need adjustment.

Yah, it's broken as written.

It doesn't count because Outmanoeuvre specifies attacking using a V arc, and a turret arc is not a V arc.

she's even equipped with proton rockets in this quickbuild, which is hilarious, because proton rockets don't trigger outmaneuver either, since they are bullseye only. ^_^

It's not the only one. L3-37 Falcon also has Outmaneuver, despite being unable to activate it.

Might be important to clarify here that there is a difference between a "front arc" and a "front arc attack". RZ2s still have front arcs, they just can't make a "front arc attack", right? I got very confused reading this post (just took a month off from 2.0 so hadn't looked over the Rules Reference in a month), it made it sound like RZ2 A-Wings can't ever trigger things like Fearless or Concordia Face Off with their turret pointed to the front (or a missile).

Yes of course, thanks for pointing it out.

I was lazy. The actual statement should be: "no forward firing arc attack". The attack got lost. Of course they have the arc.

It can trigger both, you need to be in the front arc, doesn't care if it have a front arc attack, you only need to be in front of at R1

Yup. Faceoff and Fearless care about positioning not firing arcs. It's a shame they didn't use a better keyword system to clarify the distinction.
