First Edition Bomb Tokens Legal?

By KiloFiX9, in X-Wing

Are the first edition’s bomb tokens that are the same size and shape as the Proton Bomb token, but with different image (not Siesmic nor Bomblet) still usable as a Proton Bomb token in second edition tournaments?

I seem to have an inadequate number of the actual Proton Bomb token. Thanks

Considering you can use 3rd party tokens so long as they’re the right dimensions, the only problem is that it has to be easily distinguishable as what it should be.

Maybe sticker and/or marker it? Just the word “Proton” would make it nice and obvious. Otherwise it would be at the discretion of your opponent or a TO.

I thought acrylic bomb tokens weren’t legal? My info might be dated though

The conversion kits didn’t come with bomb tokens but came with bomb cards. Thus, they converted 1st edition bomb tokens to 2nd edition.

Though I may be wrong, with all of the bombs that are the same size token it doesn't matter which you use. Unless you have different bombs equipped, then its important to differentiate them.

This is reasonable.

OP as long as you're not trying to put seismic charges for example on the board at the same time as the proton bombs it shouldn't be too big a deal to intermix same sized tokens. Just check with the TO ahead of time. You'll probably be able to borrow some extras or guys would have them to use in your game together.

You're correct. Only tokens whose dimensions are not critical can be used third party, with the exception of templates and range rulers. So, no 3p bombs or obstacles.

In tourney play anyway. Casual play is up to the players.

Ok cool. Thanks all. I have some tokens that look like a thermal detonator, I can’t even remember what they were in 1st but they’re the same shape as the protons.

IIRC, there were some FFG made acrylic bomb tokens (thermals, I think) made in first edition, but it ended up that the size was wrong and they weren't allowed in tourney play.

Proxy mines. They were cut super wrongly, best guess at the time was that the artwork was made for a router cutter, and they were cut with a laser, or vice versa, as they were too large by about 5mm in all dimensions.

Funny thing was the FFG prize acrylic bomb tokens have often missed the critical dimension mark.

Oh boy, let's not go into the Armada range rulers. They'll still haven't made a set of those that are correct.

FFG has had seismic, proton and thermal detonator tokens as acrylic prizes in the past and the current deluxe wave kit has seismic tokens in it for the wave championship events. all are legal for tournament play. The 3 piece cluster mine tokens are the ones that got messed up. they were remade and replaced to all who won them.

the only difference between the cardboard 1st edition and 2nd edition device tokens are that one side has a white boarder. this is to tell who's token is who's. same way the target locks are white on one side and black on the other.

I do not have the full picture, but at least two of the conversion kits (Scum is one of them, the other I do not know) have a booklet that have pictures of Bomblet, Loose Cargo, Proximity Mine, Conner net, Proton bomb and Seismic Charge. The Bomblet, Proton Bomb and Seismic charges have the same scale as the 1st edition tokens.

I had all the tokens from 1st edition except for the bomblet. I cut out and glued it on an unused 1st edition token. So now I got them all. :)

I did spare the second booklet as I want it for the token rules.

It was cluster bombs, I have a set of both the fixed and non fixed.
