SSD Practical Questions

By evanger, in Star Wars: Armada

Will the SSD come with it's own damage deck? There are only 52 cards in the base Armada damage deck and you'd need 32 of them applied to just the SSD in order to bring it down. Seems like the game could be starved of cards.

The super over-sized ship card: any idea on sleeves? I doubt that is a standard card size.

I highly doubt it?

In epic play, which is already a lollercoasters adventure. As soon as a ship is dead and you need to reshuffle the damage deck you just DO?

If Doddonna is fighting against a 30 hull SSD with APTs & Garrels Honour you could rattle through a damage deck before a ship is destroyed.

Fairly sure Garels Honor will be dead long before you get through 52 cards.

Just, only use the damage deck for crits while doing epic play.

That does end up affecting the card odds for getting different crits since you aren't really removing them from the deck. Works for casual games but I'm guessing FFG will have something official for organized epic play events.

It’s standard that when you run out of damage cards, you shuffle the discards and make a new deck out if them.

This includes any ships that have died.

You would have to make the assumption that you’re playing multiple SSDs or SSD/ISD combos and not losing anything, so it’s a “good” problem to have.

Really, I am imagining much larger games than standard.

Like entire collections facing each other at once sort of thing.

1500-2000 points per side.

EPIC scale

I was thinking about getting a second damage deck and shuffling them together.

For me if epic has an official point limit it will be 700, my reasoning is that it's the highest even 100 that you can go without letting a player take 2 epic SSDs.

If you're playing with like a gazillion pts: take two decks, combine, prosper.

Do we have any reason to suspect there will be an "official" Epic mode? My impression of the leaflet was that they're expecting us to come up with our own high-points ideas, perhaps with the plan of coming up with an official version after we've done a lot of experimenting?

Perhaps similar to what they've done with the 200-point format.

When huge ship rules come out: "you will need 3 damage decks from the core set to play Epic version with this expansion pack" 😂 (I honestly hope ffg does not do this 😅 )

I suspect one would need to use Ziploc bags to hold the ssd cards. They look twice as big as the normal ship cards.

There are Jumbo card sleeves out there, plus FFG usually makes their own Card sleeves to fit any of their cards

Call the game at that point, it'll have been such ridiculous fun by that point no one will need to play the rest 😂 😍
