3x3 only play... Viable?

By TheBoulder, in Star Wars: Legion

Hey guys, a friend and I are looking at the game but we have limited space and time. Is it viable and fun to play the game only on a 3x3?

Sure, you can scale it back, and several of the operations are at that size

Yes, you can play 3x3 with scaled down point builds. You won’t get all the units out but that’s ok.

one of season 3’s kit events is all 3x3 - check out operation deep jungle on the legion page. There’s going to be more of them in the future too - heard it from Wade, it must be true.

The answer is absolutely yes you can play at 3x3.

When buying my Terrain mats for Legion, I buy 2 of 3x3 mats. That way when time is an issue...we can just play a nice smaller battle. Works perfectly well.

you need to scale back the points cost imo (nothing stopping you from doing whatever you want though) and keep an eye out for abilities which become more powerful with fewer units. For example, Leia using her big nuke on a force that only has a few units...can end the game before its begun I reckon.

I would probably suggest a 500 point game for a 3x3. Nothing stops you from throwing the full 800 points on a small board. This might be an interesting idea. I see attacks happening pretty soon and very bloody battles.

I've played several lower point games on 3x3. It is definitely doable. You want to be more selective about which objectives to use; fewer objectives work better. It can also be helpful to use smaller deployment zones; we usually half the size of deployment zones.
