Make N-RTCs great (not again)

By Triangular, in Star Wars: Armada

I really love the idea FFG had for tile cards, that work for a group of ships not a single one. The technical term "Name-Restricted Title Cards" (N-RTCs).

Till now we got 4 of them "Task Force Organa", "Task Force Antilles", "Mon Calamary Exodus Fleet", and "Seventh Fleet Star Destroyer". I haven't seen them at any lists of regionals or nationals, if I remember correctly.

There are several reasons why these cards don't shine. They have a lot of restrictions in range, command-use, not so overwhelming effects, which make them less attractive then other titles. All togehter they are way too expensive for what you get (maybe with the exception of "Task Force Organa" for 1 pt.)

I think it could be a way to make these title cards more attractive if you would have to pay for 1 card only, regardless how many ships you equip it to. It's more a fleet title, than a every-ship has to pay for it title. So if you play 3 Hammerheads and you ask yourself if you want to use a title for them it would be 1 point for "TF Organa" or 3 points for "TF Antilles" instead of 3 (quite reasonable) and 9 (way too much for a maybe effect).

Following this idea these title cards would let you benefit more if you build your fleet around it. Why should I take "7th Fleet SD" for my Gladiator if I have to pay at least 10 points for two title cards to make it useful. For 10 points I'll get my notorious "Demo". But why not give it a try if I have can have it for 5 pts at as many ships I can pack into my list.

Same with "Mon Calamary Exodus Fleet". If I get my second, third title "for nothing" it would encourage to build thematic Mon Calamary lists. It's hard enough to build a list with more than 2 MC ships in it.

I’ve only used 7th fleet on Vics, which is less than ideal as I think they are a bit pricey as it is.

ISDs have lots of decent titles already & you rarely see more than 1 GSD, as much as I love them.

Exodus fleet is a "win bigger card". If 2 calamari ships survive long enough to use it more than once, you would have won anyway.

As soon as one ship leaves, you wish you had defiance and mon karen or any other titles. It is good to weather ion cannons or mines though.

The range restriction could be dropped, the price reduction would be nice too.

I am a fan of Task Force Antillies, in fact with Hammerheads in most cases you would be better off taking a CR-90 if you don't use a title. With Task Force Antillies you have to fly in formation which can be an issue for sure but the title does keep them going a little longer. I find this can be frustrating for my opponent (always a good thing) and fun for me. It isn't terribly effective if you are charging in but Running Expanded Hangerbays and Squad Commands you are staying more at range and each Hammerhead can activate 2-3 Squads per activation. For the price that is pretty decent. Not particularly competitive but its fun.

I have seen Exodus fleet used pretty effectively in the past as well. I am not much a fan of the 7th Fleet title and the Task Force Organa can put you in a possition to get wiped out pretty quick.

Exodus fleet is how you get a pseudo-Thrawn for non-Leia Rebels.

Use those titles and some combo of Flotillas, Ahsoka, Hondo, etc. )things people already take) to keep Engineering tokens on your MCxx. The tokens then act like a true engineering command while you still get to use you dial for other stuff

So you pay 10 points and title opportunity cost to get a limited (Engineering only) version of Thrawn

The Hammerhead ones are pretty effective and well-priced I think, especially since you're going to use three. I do agree, the 7th Fleet and Exodus Fleet could use some errata, I think maybe we should've had more small ships with non-unique titles to get a better feel for how to craft them on the larger bases.

I can see Kittens having a title for an extra yaw click (but exhausted ship cant Yaw), Neb-B similar to TF:O or maybe an extra dice out the front/anti-squad, making it a true glass cannon or Escort (but exhausted can't resolve CF dials) . CR-90s to refresh a defensive token (but exhausted cant spend any defensive tokens), etc etc.

Seventh Fleet won a Campaign and was in my list because of a gentleman's agreement to leave Demo title off!

ISD 2, and 2 glads did nicely. Final battle we paired up for 5 of the titles in total! At 500 points the titles work much better.

I would say, that's a hint that they are too expensive for 400 pt. games?

If only we were being encouraged to bring more points sometime soon.

(But yeah, not effective for 400 pts)
