Decided to magnetize my chain tracker card

By Bwiley1, in KeyForge

Took a refrigerator magnet and glued it to the back of the card. Small magnet button on front with a gem glued on to track the chains.

I just put the card in a card sleeve and it covers up the magnet on the back and protects to front from scratches when sliding the magnet marker.

Put it on top of my deck to remind me of the chains and the marker doesn't slide unless I purposefully move it.

Great idea!

**** I tought about this yesterday because I have only bought the decks and have no chain marker. I did not considered using sleeves like you mentioned. Might not even need to glue the magnet, just sleeve together with the card. Yours looks very well done and now I'll have to try making one haha!

It makes me sad that you glued a magnet to the back of an alternate artwork card.

But great idea!

@KrisWall, figured I wasn't going to use the card for anything other than this? I won it as a participation prize at a local tournament.

I guess the idea is you can collect all 7 of these cards and put one out during your turn for your declared faction? I'm never going to use it for that, so figured this is what I would do.

I've seen someone else suggest just putting this tracker card and the full size magnet in a card sleeve and then you don't need to glue anything. I hadn't even thought of that.

I just put damage on the top of my deck to track chains :)

I bought some actual little plastic chain links to use for chains, putting it on my deck like that as well.

But figured as an alternative to magnetize my tracker card once I thought of it.

My version 2 of the chain trackers.

Copied both of the chain tracker cards I had (so now I have 4 total, 2 actual cards and 2 paper cards)
Bought a large flexible magnetic sheet from a craft store.
Trimmed it to be the same size as the back of the tracker card.
Put the flat magnets inside a card sleeve, put the card and paper trackers on top of them. (don't have to glue them/ruin the card)
Also made a couple of magnets with gears as their topper.

Nice idea. I'm just using d6 for chains. 1 die equals 1 less card up to 6 chains. 2 dice equals 2 less cards up to 12 chains. Makes it pretty easy to keep track of.

Recently my group has taken to put damage tokens on our Archaon card to signify chains.

I use dice on my deck for chains, they work so well with how each die signifies one card less. They also are a lot less prone to accidental modification than the flimsy tracker token. For OP I'll also look into magnetizing the card sleeves on my tracking cards, but that can wait.

That was kind of my idea to magnetize the card. I too would love to use dice, it seems like the obvious choice. 1 die, draw one less card, 2 dice draw 2 less... a lot less likely to bump and change the result than the round token that slides all over the place on the card they provided.

So magnetizing it is kind of a no-brainer. Very easy to do, not destructive to the card you use as the tracker (with my version 2.0 anyway) and materials to do the mod are very easy to get at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joann Fabrics, etc...

Thanks for the idea! I just put a fridge magnet behind the card inside a sleeve. Boom, done!
