"Parallel Releases" - do we need them anymore?

At the rate they're going I think they will burn out and won't really ever be able to compete with GW.

I love GW games. I have so much GW stuff, I've given away painted armies in bouts of spring cleaning. When I discovered old defunct GW games, I'd get the books and paint two factions for it "just in case someone wanted to try it". I am in pretty deep.

They haven't gotten a dime from me since Legion came out, except a souvenir I picked up in Nottingham. If I'm anything to go by, they are already competing with GW. That and, I heard X-Wing outsold 40k last year or something. Also, FFG was selling core Legion sets for $44 free shipping on Amazon on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. If that's any kind of indicator of their strategy, I think they are going to do a really good job of catching a bigger percentage of the brand-new-to-wargaming-gamers for the year.

It'd certainly be nice if they upped their production quality... The details on the figures are really soft and some of those moldlines are as bad as some of the old metals I've bought over the years. Then there's the iffy poses... GW just does flat out better figures for not too much more in hard plastic.

The AT-ST on the other hand is a beautiful kit and good value for the money...

I agree with this to a certain extent. Some of the details/moldlines aren't pretty, and they have had a few poses that are outright bad and a number that are pretty meh, so I think GW does a much nicer job overall in terms of mini sculpts and quality.

That said, I think the price difference is rather significant, especially since codices are a thing for GW, the army sizes are larger for GW, and their boxes don't give you enough of certain key pieces to actually use everything that the box provides. This leaves you with lots of awesome bits, but they aren't easy to switch out for list changes. In particular, the fact that Legion armies aren't as easily hamstrung by new codex releases (stats and points changes that force you to switch all your Grey Knights from halberds to falchions, for example) is a major selling point for me.

Also, I think FFG is learning, and though they are relatively new to this whole sculpting of action poses they are starting to bring their A-game. The pathfinders and Krennic look pretty darn good--I can't wait to paint up some pathfinders!

I just wish Krennic wasn't looking at the ground... otherwise the sculpt/pose look pretty great and Boba Fett is quite good.

Also I'm looking at it from a pure models standpoint (there's no arguing that codices aren't hugely expensive, because they are). I've got Kill Team and Necromunda already and have no intention of dipping into 40k again. The same models will also see use in Scrappers, Mutants and Deathray Guns, etc... so I like to see better figures overall. I mean, why don't they have the same poses as their box art? The glove pose or even a generic standy-abouty pose would be an improvement.

It just pains me to see such poor figures for such an expensive property especially when the X-wing and Armada ships look great.
