Happy Friday - Just played First Order !

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

I pre-ordered through cool stuff inc. Not doing that again. My kit and A-wings won't be here till the 24th.

Still excited. Eagerly list building, but stuck waiting.

While I feel the Ups is suffering from a bipolar split between gun and support ship, being too stiff for the first and too expensive for the latter, I feel Tavson bridges these roles perfectly

Tavson with phasma creates an incredibly awkward hurdle for the opponent. Shoot Tavson and he buffs himself/his buddies/possibly jams you. Ignore Tavson, eat four dice primary. Run into Tavson to exploit his horrible, no-kturn dial? Phasma

The ups has a silly flexible upgrade bar and I wish it had more pilots like Tavson with which to properly exploit it. Even if the conditions were steep, like get weapons disabled for a free action, the ups would be an amazingly flexible ship

Why take blackout when you could take Quickdraw for a lot less if going for I?

Boost + Barrel roll

Or more upgrades for stridan to use, if his ability for friendly or enemy he would be fantastic.

I feel the upsilon is still a bit to expensive for a support shuttle and suffers from a split personality of providing actions to other ships and wanting to be an attack platform and it can't do both without being half your points and no flip around

I found Cardinal to be excellent at doing both. I ran this and beat Cubanboy on Thursday:

Captain Cardinal (64)
Fire-Control System (3)

"Longshot" (33)
Fanatical (2)

"Muse" (32)
Fanatical (2)

Omega Squadron Ace (31)
Fanatical (2)

Omega Squadron Ace (31)

Total: 200

So you used him as a reroll eye platform? How does that make him excellent at both and how did you use him?

With 4 red dice, he's decent for attack in his own right, and at 67 pts, he's managed to be much less than half the cost of the force.

I'm guessing that he target-locked every time, to make use of the Fire Control system, and the TIEs all stayed close enough to benefit from eyeball rerolls.

Eh, DoubleC not working on himself makes him a far less effective Upsilon pilot than Tavson (imo)

Also the lower (specifically, not same or lower) I requirement is SUPER bleh. atop retelling ONE die and only a focus resuly. Imo, they went too hard trying to balance him

The Ups is a ship that really needs (and, due to its clunkiness + cost, DESERVES) some action economy to make the most of itself.

Though I must say Ive just re-read Thanison (pilot) and she seems pretty funny too. In arc requirement is a tad rough, but he can REALLY mess with your opponent by plopping a tractor token atop their stress (note, does NOT say "instead of")

Also, Phasma basically seems mandatory if you don't want your shuttle to be ignored or mobbed

Finally get my kit and did some game with a mini elite swarm tie/fo here my appreciation for each with configuration :

"Midnight" (with Fanatical) : A real pain to stop any ship who need modification (looking at you Rey), despite the small nerf.

Malarus (Advanced Optics) : I used all of her charge in my game, the gillertstim ability is useful (especially if you been blocked and range 1...), advanced optics help her attack when activate the capacity.

"Null" (Biohexacrypt and Squad Leader) : A nice surprise ! Doing a coordinate action without limit range ? Yes, will try with "Static" for a next game

" Scorch" (Fanatical) : Just here to add attack, no more no less, still good !

"Longshot" (Fanatical) : A mixed felling ! I never be able to use his ability, will try again.

Fanatical is a cheap and good upgrade, I used few times but will keep it for a standard configuration for any tie/fo.

Oh and I happy to play with them again ! :)

Yep....just like that.

I tried to slow roll with the Bat-wing as it can be a good blocker. Asteroids were important on most maps as I came between two and with the asteroids and big ol' base there, it created a large area that he couldn't go. Once I got the TL, I didn't really mind too much about bumping, as long as it kept me in the right spot.

Low PS pilot went for the block....and did very well. He actually got 3 hits on Wedge after Wedge bumped the B-wing in front of him. Got the modifications from the Bat-wing and focused fire. In the end, I lost one Tie and had another Tie Fighter with 1 hull left.

Overall, bumping is an important part of the list. If I can cause mayhem for them and cause the bump, I can get my shots in with Tie Fighters and the Bat-wing and it has been effective.

One game even had Longshot take out 3 shield from a B-wing!

Has anyone tried Tavson with Kylo? ISYTDS on top of free actions seems really cool in addition to passive mods, but it's hard to fit in a good crit-dealer and the whole thing is probably too expensive. Man I miss backdraft's old ability. I wish it was worded like ATC. :(
