Interdictor vs Liberty

By OberMatthew, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi guys,

the friend with whom I have fun with armada has bought the MC 80 "Liberty". How i can beat him using the 'Diktor?

Usually i use 1 Interdictor, 1 Victory and 1 Gozanti. I thought about building something like that in my battle triangle.

INTERDICTOR Suppression Refit (90pts)

  • Disposable Capacitor (3pts) ----> Pull the blue dice long distance
  • Overload Pulse (8pts) ----> Disable the defense tokens (turning them red) helping with Screed's
  • Nav Team (4pts ) ----> Engine techs too expensive but yularen help to have always nav token
  • Targeting Scrambler (5pts) ----> Reroll enemy dice
  • Admiral Screed (26pts) ----> Always at least 1 crit
  • Interdictor - Title (3pts) ----> Ready the card
  • Grav Shift Rerouter (2pts) ----> Force the "liberty" ship to avoid obstacles and show the side
  • Wulff Yularen (7pts) ----> Always repair and nav token

149 Points, not really cheap indeed....

My build is already 399/400

Thanks for reading 😊

I'd highly recommend Heavy Ion Emplacements instead of Overload Pulse (which allows them to spend their tokens before the pulse even takes effect, rendering it a lot less useful.) HIEs combo well with ACMs on a VSD1 or a second set of HIEs on a VSD2. Ion Cannon Batteries are a cheaper option, but still solid (and give you exactly the points for Engine Techs.)

Actually so I could have the tech engine, good idea! But my friend usually uses a lot of tokens and I do not think is effective enough to counter the "Liberty", I prefer at this point to use HIE as you advised me.

Do you advise me to prefer VIC I compared to VIC II?

NoobQuestion : Are there any cards that allow me to use the turbolaser slot in the diktor? (Combo Needa and TRCircuit )

Nope, the Interdictor has no way to access the turbolaser slot. I like the VSD2 better than the VSD1 because once you give it Disposable Capacitors it becomes an artillery piece, which compensates for its poor speed and maneuverability. The VSD1 is prone to being outflanked and has trouble getting a close range front arc in several matchups. A well-flown Madine or Raddus Liberty could easily deny a good shot. In fact, I'd recommend Jerjerrod as an answer even with the VSD2 to keep it on target.

Vic I and II can both be good, but a Vic II is far easier to get in the right position and is the more versatile of the two. dCaps and LS make the first volley a force to be reckoned with. The Vic1 is especially good when you can draw the opponent in, or, with Hyperspace Assault as objective, just drop it right on top of them / in their way.

And no, there's no card that allows you to take a turbolaser upgrade on a dictor. But then again, even without HIEs, the damage output isn't that bad.

Dang you, @The Jabbawookie and your quick answers!

the wookie got here first.... (it appears damnation isn't permitted)

Many thanks to both of you! I find the very good jerjerrod solution, I can avoid the tech engines and pump the VSD-II

Take second player with most wanted, contested outpost and salvage run.

Thrawn might be a good plan as well, or piett when he comes out, but jj is always a solid choice.

Unfortunately I cannot put Trawn because those points make me comfortable for other upgrades

Since we do not know the rest of the list, most is just guesswork and suggestions 😅

I can not publish the whole list, I would not want my friend to know our strategies 😉

Maybe he's spying 😁 Thanks for all!

Additional: if you are going Jerjerrod, you can also ditch the nav team and Yularen on the Dictor. Now make it a Doctor with Projection experts! It can heal alot with its Eng5 value and can help the Vic recover lost shields from using Jerjerrod or from enemy attacks

I had already considered such a tactic, but I have to focus more on the firepower of the interdictor rather than the assistance to the VSD-II ... The gozanti take care of repairing the VSD!

What do you mean? I just made a random list that has all the components you want, and a big ace ball. There are other ways you can go, and thrawn is still an option.

Faction: Imperial
Commander: Grand Admiral Thrawn

Assault:
Defense:
Navigation:

Interdictor Suppression Refit (90)
• Grand Admiral Thrawn (32)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Grav Shift Reroute (2)
• Targeting Scrambler (5)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
• Interdictor (3)
= 144 Points

Victory II (85)
• Governor Pryce (7)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Spinal Armament (9)
• Leading Shots (4)
= 115 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
= 25 Points

Squadrons:
• Colonel Jendon (20)
• Maarek Stele (21)
• JumpMaster 5000 (12)
• Captain Jonus (16)
• Major Rhymer (16)
• Whisper (20)
= 105 Points

Total Points: 389

This combination is very interesting. So I do not lose the mobility of the "moff jerjerrod", the tokens of "yularen" and a possible "support team" upgrade? Do you think it is more useful to sacrifice those two officers for Thrawn?

Is there a way to make the " contain " token more effective?

Damage Control Officer (Arquitens expansion.) She’s either good or completely useless, it depends on your meta.

Vader kind of makes the contain token better, because you can spend it for a reroll and fish for crits to to trigger/turn accuracies to damage.

Oh, and dual contain is naturally good against bombers on its own. The high engineering value helps too.

Damage control officer greatly amplifies the " contain ", you're right.
I can not use Vader because I already have " Jerjerrod " or " Thrawn " as admirals.
Indeed it makes sense to use " contain " against bomber attacks!

Do you advise me to use a DCO or a " quad laser turrets " to get a counter against bomber?

Edited by OberMatthew

Neither will help you as much as a fighter screen. DCO helps most against things like APTs, HIEs and ACMs. If you’re pretty sure he’ll bring one or more of these, she’s great. If not she’s a waste. QLT isn’t great on its own. Flak upgrades become better the more you invest, like adding Kallus, Raiders with Flechette Torpedoes, etc. The problem then happens when they don’t focus on squadrons in their list, which a Liberty probably won’t ; all those points do little or nothing, the precious officer slot isn’t being used effectively, the Raiders aren’t as good against ships as they could have been, etc. It’s known as a “silver bullet.” Upgrades like Captain Brunson and Disposable Capacitors are generally better because they’ll always help keep you alive or make them dead.

Rereading this post, I had a doubt!

With the title "Interdictor" can I use HIE twice?

I mean in the case where the interdictor has two arcs of fire (on different targets or on the same).

No, sadly not. Interdictor says "when a ship activates", which is not equal to "during a ships activation".

So the window to use the title ist already closed, when HIE gets exhausted by the first Shot.

Oh yes, it's true. Thanks

Interdictor Title is very good for Strategic Advisor or Targeting scramblers

Except the dictor is medium and SA is large only 😕

Exactly, with targeting scrablers is indispensable!
