I know all the talk is about Kylo and how good he is, but I started looking at the other Silencer pilots and realized just how cheap the INT 1 generic silencer is. Its a full 16 points cheaper than a Delta Squadron Pilot, which is kind of crazy to me. The Defender gains 1 hit point and the evade action. Full Throttle is great but so is Autothrusters giving you that nice double repositioning. Overall the Silencer is a much more flexible fighter. It can fill both rolls, arc-dodger and jouster if need be. I rather have Tech than Systems and much rather have Torps than Cannons. The modification slot is nice too, but not sure what you'd run there. I suspect we will get a drop in the price of the Defender pilots, especially the generic ones, but they are not even Hyperspace legal so I doesn't matter too much competitively.
So what squads can you build? Well you can run 3 Jameson Engineers (what I like to call them) and have 32 points left over for upgrades or a Tie FO if you are so inclined. You can even upgrade one to Kylo, but no Supernatural makes him angry. Blackout might be the better choice since you got more points to play with. But who owns 3 Silencers? What I have been toying with is how to incorporate protons with the generics and actually make them effective.
Sienar-Jaemus Engineer (56)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
Sienar-Jaemus Engineer (56)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
Lieutenant Tavson (62)
Targeting Synchronizer (5)
Total: 197
Pretty simple squad and hyperspace legal. Tavson can make getting off those Proton Torps a lot easier at Int 1`. He can either Coordinate a TL to a friendly Silencer or he can TL himself and allow a Silencer to shoot his payload with Synchronizer. This can all happen in the engagement phase. I would setup by getting Tavson out in front of the Silencers and use him as kind of a buffer ship. Throw Tavson at your opponent and reinforce. Make him have to shoot Tavson and then start coordinating Silencers or TLing targets to paint. The LT throws out a pretty mean shot himself.
For extended I would run Codes and Baffle on Tavson. Now if Torps do get more expensive you may run into problems. If they only go up a point you are fine, but if they go up to 11 you'll have to drop one of the Silencers down to Ion torps or a missile. Or nothing and run crew of Tavson. Something like that.
Its will also look awesome on the mat.
