Wave 2 Tourney Legal Question

By Spike IT, in X-Wing Organized Play

I'm running a Wave 1 Kit Championship tourney on Saturday for my FLGS. We chose Extended as the format for the tourney. Wave 2 looks like it will be available tomorrow. Are new ships tourney legal as soon as they are available (i.e., after FFG makes the announcement on their website that the Wave is now available) or is there something like a 10-day waiting period after announcement before new ships are legal in FFG events?

Is there something in the Tournament Rules or Organized Play resources that I am missing? I'm thinking there should be a waiting period for events held at the Formal or Premier tournament tier but anything that is released should be legal at the Relaxed tournament tier, which is how the Wave Kit Championship will be run.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

For not official events like local store tournaments, its up to TO to decide which waves are legal. For bigger events there is usually an announcement on the event page about the legality of products.
So in your case I would say let the store decide and make an announcement. I would probably add that if a ship is not available yet on the official squad builder then it should not be tournament legal.

X-Wing Tournament Regulations cover product legality.

For Relaxed and Formal events, all product is legal in North America upon
the product’s official release. For Premier events, all product is legal in North
America 11 days—typically the second Monday—after the product’s official
release. Official dates will be updated on the Product Legality page on our
website FantasyFlightGames.com/OP/Legality/SW . Players outside North
America should check with their organizer to determine which products are
tournament legal. Please also remember that certain Game Modes and
variants may limit the ship cards and upgrade cards which are available for
use in a given event.
