I just want to make sure I'm tracking this correctly, future System Open events are going to be using the "Hyperspace" format for the main event rather than the Extended format, correct?
System Open Formats
From the 2019 UK System Open page:
"Main Event: Players compete in a 6 round Swiss tournament. 200 point, Extended Game Mode build. "
Edit: From my understanding, Hyperspace format will only be used in events that include "Hyperspace" in their name, eg Hyperspace Trials. I had assumed this would be the case for the System Opens' day two Hyperspace Qualifier side events, but these appear to have been renamed "Extended Qualifier".

Open events are full extended. Hyperspace events are limited to Hyperspace legal stuff.
kinda simple when you break it down like that
That makes sense, thanks. I was looking at the Atlanta Open, and got a little confused about the sunday event, which left me wondering if the main was hyperspace. Above settled it though. Rock on.

Really? I haven't seen that. That's a nice change for folks that are traveling to these. No longer a need to bring two lists if you don't want to.

Here's the listing that got my eyebrows up.

Main event is Extended, Qualifier is Extended until the debut of Hyperspace Game Mode (according to this page):
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/op/x-wing/system-open-series/event-structure/
Main Event: System Open
System Open tournaments use the Extended game mode.
Each System Open Tournament features two days:
- Day 1: Six Swiss rounds. Each player with 5 or more wins qualifies for Stage 2.
- Day 2: Single elimination bracket. Byes are awarded to the top-seeded players as needed to balance the initial bracket.
Hyperspace Jump: Any player eliminated from Day 2 of the System Open Tournament before reaching the Top 8 may elect to "hyperspace jump" to the Hyperspace Qualifier, earning byes (victories) for any rounds they missed while playing in the System Open Tournament.
Hyperspace Qualifier
The Hyperspace Qualifier is a secondary tournament scheduled to begin shortly after the System Open main event moves into Day 2 single elimination play. The event features six Swiss rounds and utilizes the Hyperspace game mode active in the X-Wing squad builder app. There is no top cut. No winners are determined. Instead, any and all undefeated players earn an invitation to the X-Wing World Championships.
( Due to time constraints, some Hyperspace Qualifiers may be planned with only 5 rounds. )
Hyperspace Jump: Any player eliminated from Day 2 of the System Open main event after the Hyperspace Qualifier begins may elect to "hyperspace jump" to the Hyperspace Qualfier, earning byes (victories) for any rounds they missed while playing in the System Open Tournament.
NOTE: System Open Series events taking place in 2018, prior to the debut of the Hyperspace Game Mode, will offer "Extended Qualifiers" instead. These will function as Hyperspace Qualifiers, but will use the Extended game mode.
It's confusing, but dadocollin has it right- As of now, any Hyperspace Qualifiers are titled Extended Qualifiers and use Extended rules. This will change when 2019 comes around.
Edit- Hyperspace Jump is an interesting twist...
Edited by Ikkathe Phoenix open is the confusion. I plan on bringing a pair of lists, one for extended, one for hyperspace, just in case. Cascade are terrible at email inquiries too.
