Attack on Dol Guldur

By GrandSpleen, in Strategy and deck-building

Last year's Fellowship event. We got creamed in epic multiplayer at my event, and I shelved the quest and have not revisited it until recently.

Tried 3 times in 2-handed play for standard mode, and I'm not really getting anywhere. The obvious solution is to bring an obscene amount of willpower and combat (Outlands, Dwarves, Gondor swarm) but has anyone had success with this quest outside of just spamming allies?

We were able to win without too much Ally spam, but we had four decks to draw from:

IIRC, part of the key is to be able to quest hard from round 1 and build up from there, but of course your combat engine has to come online pretty quickly too. Location control is a boon as well, although you only really need a splash of it.

Definitely a tough quest!

I defeat it many time with 1, 2, 11 or 12 players (I know there is a sudden gap ^^). The usual technics work fine: Some allies for the willpower (gondor swarm? It seem less a willpower deck than Outlands, Dwarf, Dale, Rohan, Noldor, Silvan.. and that make more of the half of the trait ^^, Caldara, vilya or so may work as fine), a good deck for the fight. Some locations are indeed annoying but with few players you can manage to travel to them. Keep killing the enemies. It is more complicated with many players since we always get many Dol Guldur locations in play but it is doable.

I have not succeeded cracking this one with 12p. It is sooooo difficult.

well, I'm including multiple +willpower global effects in 'gondor swarm' Visionary leadership obviously puts all of your weenie allies up to 2 willpower, and Faramir himself is a Gondor ally, although his ability is not Gondor-specific. But yes, I've witnessed the power of an Erestor-driven Gondor swarm and it is indeed powerful.

Personal comment here :I finally managed to find attack on dol guldur pack with delivery and deposit fees equal to pack cost and not 5 times it....I was waiting for this opportunity for months. Be happy for me!

it just arrived today. Look forward to try this quest during Christmas break.
