Ive been thinking that in almost every game standby is the most underused action. Sure it can be powerfull but its just too easy to shrug off. I would sugges that troopers lose standby token the miment they become supressed (number of supression tokens equal to courage value. for now it wont change a lot but for wookie warriors, royal guards, cannons, death troopers and personel upgraded fleet troopers this would mean harder removal and wpuld make this action more usefull). Im curious what do you think.
Standby rule change suggestion
I don’t think it’s useless as it is. It’s just highly situational.
I also suspect there may be new upgrades coming that potentially grant the keyword Sentinel, which will be a boost to standby actions. Right now it’s only really good on the turret and eweb, but it could become pretty decent overall if sentinel can be acquired.
Lets see what changes happen in the next 6 months first. Once the GCW slows down to make way for clone wars we can revisit.
I think there have been two discussions about this in the past two days, one of which is literally on the front page of the forum with "Standby" in the title...

redundancy is the key to any good discussion. Just repeat yourself and it sounds like you're winning the argument.
I think if you say the same thing, just in a different way, you really have a chance to sway people's opinion, and get your voice heard.
As I said in the other one on page 1 - changing the range of standby really doesn’t change the game dynamic at all.
It just changes at what range we play the bubble game.
This would be a very good change. Especially with turrets having 2 courage.
I think that would be an awesome change. It would make units with a higher suppression value even better and make standby actually be usable. Will FFG ever change standby though? I seriously doubt it...😪
Also though, this game doesn't necessarily need standby to be a usable action. It's an extra action to take when it would be useful, but usually unnecessary.

Well, they changed the rules to allow standby to be used by ground vehicles so they might change it again. I believe that in personel expansion there is an upgrade that increases courage that wpuld synergise well with this rule change to allow fleet troopers to standby more relaiably.
Standby feels like it's working as intended, at least to me. It allows a unit with no targets in Line of sight to bank an action if the alternative would be moving out into the open and then getting shot before their next turn. If FFG wanted it to be used frequently, it would most likely be part of the demo. But as is, it's a niche rule with a handful of interactions that people can occasionally find uses for.

A unit does not become suppressed until you check its courage value against the number of suppression tokens at the beginning of its activation, so this would not work. You could say under Standby “if a unit receives suppression tokens equal to or greater than its courage value, remove any Standby tokens from that unit”.
My gut says that this would only make units with courage greater than 1 more valuable and powerful and that the cost of those units would then need to be changed accordingly. Therefore, the best way to make Standby a more powerful action is really through upgrades that allow you to bend the rules, not through a rule change.
