Bob or Gloria's Personal Story

By valvorik, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Both pass their personal stories for having 5 clue tokens. That seems very generous (anyone in the gate-closing business, and with special ability that's definitely Gloria's business, will be accumulating 5 anyway). Would make more sense to me if you had to spend the clue tokens to pass the story. Thoughts?

Rob

Ask Dam. He prefers to watch Jenny cry when she gets her sister's head in the mail. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Bobbo starts with 0, so it'll take him 4-5 turns to pass it, barring luck with encounters. Add one turn for shopping at Curiositie Shoppe (at least for me) and he's in business turn 6, assuming no mishaps with "a gate and a monster appears". Since my games average around 14 turns, he only passes pretty much around the halfway mark, so it's by no means overpowered. Gloria's PS pass would be utterly worthless if she had to spend 5 Clues. As it stands, all the "spend 5 Clues" PS are horrible IMO. Jenny, Hank, Vincent, nope, nope, nope, all those are considered "none shall pass" PS for me, the reward for giving up effectively a seal is so not worth it.

And collecting 5 clue tokens for +1 fight? Please. It should give her +1 lore, at least then she has a chance at closing some of the harder gates. As she is now, her lore and fight skills are so low she's only good at closing gates with low modifiers, which generally aren't as challenging in the other worlds anyway, which means her ability isn't actually all that great. For what they gave her, there's no way it should be spend five clues.

Ah, but you're assuming they seriously *want* to boost her abilities ;'D when I play Jenny I fail her every time. Besides, family carrion tastes best.

Personally, if I play Bob, I pass his mission by the third turn usually (sometimes faster if I have an old journal or a King in Yellow or a lesser clue generating item). Whether you use his passed mission for $15 or five more clues, it's excellent, and it should be passed asap.
