Wildly disappointed in the quality of Wave Champiosnhip kits.

This level of competition used to mean something.

winning at this level used to come with prestige, as well.

It used to mean something to win one.

Image result for Pepperidge farm remembers

that kid looks like it's bloated with crap

For me that the price of attending tournaments has doubled or, in some cases, tripled as the increase in kit price as forced the local games stores to up their entry fees.

But the quality or amount of stuff you get at the tournament for the average player such as myself has not doubled or tripled (if anything, I'm just funding more stuff for the top 1-3 players)...

The end result is I think I will be playing even less tournament x-wing.

They should really include the spot gloss cards that are available at System Opens for top tier rewards, got a Quickdraw at PAX Unplugged and it is fantastic!! Really wish they had Capt. Jonus available, he was the only card not there, but sadly was shown on the FFG news article grrrr

i'm going to keep going to events, because supporting my local community is more important than prizes. i'll make good prizes that will be legal for tournament use, so that wont be an issue.

store champ season used to be my favorite time to play the game. it wasn't uncommon to have a string of 4 straight weeks with a championship, or like 6 tournaments in 7 weeks.

hopefully this is just some transition weirdness and the game will get back to what i loved about it, which was huge community events that people wanted to come to regardless of meta standing.

The UK System Open has almost 600 people booked less than a week after tickets went on sale, so at least the *really* big events still seem to be doing well.

I think there's some initial teething issues with the new OP structure - my FLGS has taken a little while to adapt, but we're now looking at more X-Wing events in general, with things link the Quick Build party and maybe some of the Thematic tournaments taking place on our regular Wednesday nights rather than weekends, leaving those free for things like Seasonal Kits and Wave Championships.

I'm actually liking the season kit and the theme's. Last month was Quick Build games during the league play, your squad had to include one of the three QB pilot cards given out. This month is Battle of Yavin squads. Next month is going to be plain Extended. I like the way the meta changes up depending on how its being ran, and gets people out of their comfort zone, be creative and try something new.

The coins are pretty cool, I'm going to add a little color to the active side though to make it a bit easier for the guy across the table to read.

I am really surprised that some people claim they see a price hike in the tournament registration fees because of the wave kits, when it should have been the opposite. Retail price for the wave kits is almost the same as the store championship kit used to be with the difference you get triple the amount of prizes! Since I am TO for the local tournaments (Tokyo, the outer rims) I am happy that I can host 2-3 events for the price I could do one and give more prizes to all the participants. Many people that aim for the top 3 may be disappointed by the top tier prizes but overall its a far better kit for the lower ranked guys and it really helps with building the community. Everyone knows now they will be getting 2-3 cards and tokens each event even if they join just to have fun and fly casual without any expectation to rank at the top.
