Wildly disappointed in the quality of Wave Champiosnhip kits.

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

The new equivalent of store champs kits is pretty weak. Basically just a regular seasonal kit. No byes, no plaques.

This level of competition used to mean something.

no byes, whats there to aim for ?

There's also way more of them. They're released as often as seasonal kits, based on the production schedule so far.

This has me wondering what ffg is planning for byes for regionals if at all?

Quantity over quality is generally not the best idea.

Given the new line-up of System Open/Hyperspace stuff, there probably won't ever be byes again, just guaranteed slots for Worlds.

There are no Regionals anymore- System Opens seems to have replaced them.

Plastic card for the winner of the wave championship has a gold embossed 1st on it just like last year's store champs. Its neat!

yeah the cards are great, its just the coins I find hard to use.

The coins still have their uses. Like, i dont know keeping our cards in place or other stuff like crushing a dice that starts to roll badly lol.

Regionals are now Hyperspace Trials, I think they're meant to start in March?

Nationals are now Hyperspace Cups.

System Opens are their own separate thing.

Man we used to get so much more. Wall plaque, acrylic templates and a challenge coin were all staples for a while.

Now i get a card for a faction I may not have bought into. Neat.

so why would stores even order these things, there really doesn't seem to be much incentive

Steep hike in store kits has had a noticible effect locally. Entrance fees go up or prize support goes down. It's not good. The value in them is highly questionable.

Although I'm quite pleased with my new acrylic Seismic token. Not as useful as store credit though, none of my lists use bombs.

that's also been an issue. Atlanta is known for being able to produce a dozen store championships during a given season. it wasnt uncommon to hit 40 for attendance.

we've got a single wave kit.

There's like 100 coin tokens and a gajillion cards for all three current factions in there. Seems pretty good to me, especially because no one's actually enforcing the "three tournaments of exactly this format" thing. As a local TO at a couple stores, I just ask and give the people what they want.

The new levels don't seem like direct equivalents of the old.

System Opens fall somewhere above where regionals used to. Every "qualifying" store gets a Hyperspace Trail, so it seems like they will fall somewhere between what used to be regionals and store champs.

Are there images for any of these kits contents yet?

Here is one I took of the Wave 1 Deluxe Wave kit

With the exception of the coins that look rather cheaply made, the rest of the contents are superb. I cant see why so many people complain about this lot.
Overall its a great kit.

What are the TO awards in the kit?

winning at this level used to come with prestige, as well.

yes, the kit has a lot of participation stuff. it used to mean something to win one.

Those metal charge coins are awful in the worst way.

There's an extra of every card *except* the plastic gray/bounty hunter. There's also an extra bomb token, and extra coins.

Trials are equivalent to Regionals/Store Champs. Deluxe Wave kit is equivalent to glorified store kits that cost too much that do give you a lot, but is kinda unnecessary.

Yes! A thousand times yes!

I've never turned down and event reward before but **** those coins are bad I pass every time. They look worse than the cardboard and objectively make game play worse.

I was lucky enough to have won the only piece I really like in the kit, the spot gloss R2-D2.

If only they had left the backside of Thane clean like they did for the Skull, that's some of the best art in the game.
