Apologies if this has already been answered but what's the timing on his ability?

With it saying friendly ship at 0-3 and ships not being removed until the end of the initiative step, does he get one last revenge shot if he himself is killed?

As written, yes, Chewie’s own death would proc his ability. If it said “another friendly”, then it would not proc.

Chewie with deadman's switch would be interesting then, if he's low on health you just chuck him right in the mix and dare them to kill him
