They said earlier next year, I’d expect Adepticon as the source of news with GenCon release.

I wouldn’t personally expect an announcement until spring or summer of 2019 with quarter 4 2019 release

'86 to '96 would have been really hard on you as a Star Wars gamer. Usually I found out about the existence of new releases months or years late, by physically and unexpectedly finding them in a store.

We were told to expect some more information about it sometime early 2019. I would expect anything until February at least

In terms of CW content, the initial word at Gencon was basically in terms of soonest appearance:

1. X-Wing has key visuals and mockups already (and already has Wave III with Clone Wars factions announced as of now)
2. Legion is for sure announced, look for it next year
3. Armada is "yeah that's funny we didn't say anything about it, huh? watch this space"

As a rebel armada player, I'm really glad that it's looking I get to skip 2019 so I can focus on legion

Any announcement is months away.

Yeah, except Legion really hasn’t been. We have.... 8 expansions we know are in the pipe and on the way (both factions combined). Not counting knowledge eventually clone wars factions are coming.

OP is just being impatient.

Same here. I have zero interest in anything related to the prequels. But I’m happy for everyone who does want clone wars stuff. I just get to save money.

Yea, precisely this. Legion is still the "new hotness," so they want to milk as much out of the sales as they can for the OT stuff, which everyone has already invested in, before they start introducing CW stuff and letting some of the playerbase divert there would-be OT funds to new PT armies. Let everyone buy all the currently planned OT stuff first, then let them start investing into the new PT stuff.

They only put CW stuff out quickly in X-Wing because the game is so "old," and the vast majority of people who wanted Rebel and Empire ships, for instance, have already bought them. They need something new to spark their interest.

Well in my case, I'm waiting for Clone Wars to jump in for several reasons. Hope they do the same thing that Runewars did (Essential box, so no need for starter). I will start with a new faction that not everyone have. And my interest in X-Wing (which was renewed with 2.0) is starting to go back down.

May 2019 is also the 20th anniversary of TPM. If they don’t release product, I would expect at least an announcement

I disagree. There’s a fair number of people who are waiting for CW. Folks who had an interest in the game but not quite enough (maybe they were busy in another game?) and are now being drawn in.

Additionally, there’s a player base out there who’s main complaint was “not enough diversity”. They’re going to get more diversity faster with more factions.

I fail to see how it’s bad business to offer more people more choices. If anything, they’d get more of my money if they came out sooner so I could have two sizable armies instead of one (I’m not buying everything currently out, just one side).

You are probably right about X-Wing, however for me (as a long time xwing player), I just don’t have the drive to flesh out 4 new factions — splitting off the sequel trilogy into their own faction plus clone wars. I’m more likely to just not spend so much money in xwing at all.

Im guessing a little earlier though - I see two scenarios:

1. Clone Wars at Adepticon, to celebrate 1 year of legion.

2. Clone Wars models revealed at Adepticon, for same reason, but actually available closer to GenCon

I'm thinking the latter is more likely than the former. They previewed Han and the Rebel Commandos at Adepticon and early-released them at GenCon so the timing is definitely doable.

However, if CW is pre-releasing in late March for a full early Q2 release, we would likely hear about it soon. Personally, I hope they use Q2 and Q3 to flesh out the GCW era a little bit more and then go full force into CW in Q4.
