Hello all,
Looking into using some paint pens to make some modifications to my ships, but I know little about painting and even less about paint pens. My questions!
1) I have seen people discuss Sharpies before. Would the Sharpies used be "normal" Sharpies? "Water-based" Sharpies? "Oil-bases" Sharpies?
2) Are there other brands of paint pens that would work, and if so, what kind of types would work? (Again, "water-based" other kinds).
For any/all recommendations, please note that I live in Canada when recommending stores and products.
Sharpies & Other Paint Pens - What Brands / Types?
This is the set I've used. Mostly I've used it on pipes and other small details on various ships. Like I said, it's mainly for detail work.
I have not used paint pens. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable using them mainly because I don't feel confident enough with my skills using them. With paint, I know if I mess up, I can re-paint or strip my model back to square one and try again. Some paint pens are more permanent, being enamel, lacquer or oil based.
If you just want to punch up a ship, the Sharpies work great.
See the piping and boxes in the cavities on the YT-2400? Sharpie
And here, the rods on the cannons, the lip of the engine cowlings and the copper on top of the cowlings are Sharpie too.
