Keyforge - Colour Blind Problem & Possible Solution

By paganeagle2001, in KeyForge

Hi Keyforge designers of 3rd party tokens, either in just normal printed or 3D etc. I appear to have found a little problem with Keyforge.

The keys MUST be red, blue yellow to be tournament legal but... What if you are colour blind?

With cardboard, you can write on the unforged side the colour.

With acrylic ones I just see the same colour.

Now the main cards are no problem as they have the house symbols.

So, please consider doing different designs for key colours if using acrylic, and the same for printed versions. For printed, the unforged sides would need to be the same design, perhaps with a large U to define unforged.

Just my thoughts, but I want Keyforge to be played by as many people as possible.

The reason I'm coming up with this is the rule on key colours as the tournament rules do say that future sets may do certain things to certain keys.

While discussing this on the Keyforge Facebook group we came up with a very simple solution.

just put a symbol in the centre of the keys on the front and back to indicate colour.

example

red key - square

yellow key - triangle

blue key - diamond

symbols work for everyone and don't need different text for different languages.

so, FFG devs how about doing this?

this would also help with 3rd party tokens.

just trying to be a more inclusive community.

Why not just have them look like the house crests?

Maybe an unfinished pewter look on one side and then a nice glossy full color finish on the opposite side when you forge the key.

Would be a neat premium prize and peole could hunt down all 7 houses.

Well they did avoid red-green deficiency at least, complete monochromatic vision and yellow-blue deficiency are much more rare. Using symbols would have been a good idea anyways, though.

Use stickers

Is there a reason (in the rules) why the keys have to have different collors? You just have to forge 3 keys, not forge them in order, right?

From what I’ve heard, the colors will matter in future expansions. One of my friends uses kids toys as keys when we play

They have to be according to the official tournament rules document. It seems likely to me that future cards will reference key colors.
