I bought into the rebel side HARD on black friday. Ended up getting 2 core sets free, and basically 3 of every unit you can take multiples of. I opened the rebel half of one core set and primed those. Then I painted Luke as he has a defined look and was pretty easy.

Last night I spent all night using google looking through all the different Rebel uniforms and even the Resistance uniforms from TLJ. They all just look like a mash up of dirty white, grey, brown, green and yellow... I can't seem to find inspiration for a uniform scheme that makes sense for the environment they're in. (I'm basing everything to look like Crait/have Crait mats/Made Crait Terrain).
Does anyone have advice on how to get past this so I can begin painting my units? Ideas on color scheme that could work is also welcome.
Looking for inspiration rebel/resistance color scheme
Rebels have always been a little hodge podge.
If you want a uniform, pick some colors that look good together and go for it.

I've been trying. I have sketchbook on my phone, I've been filling in colors and switching them. I guess to me they all just look uninspired.

One idea then is to go with a real world inspiration you like. For me, I went world war 2 inspiration. While I’m an empire player, when I use greens/browns/etc, I use German colors from that palette. It’s evolved a little past that to “and colors that look good with that” but it’s a starting point.
Pick your favorite allies army (US/UK/Soviet etc) and look at their uniforms and if any of them inspire you? Maybe an Africa-deployed army uniform of that period works?
(look closer at a lot of costuming in Star Wars, and you can see a solid ww2 influence. Just throwing that out as an idea)
If you don't mind the work you might find some inspiration looking through the news articles for the Age of Rebellion RPG. I had some time to kill and did this the other day and really wished I had before I painted my Rebel army. Might have gone a different route than I did.

This is a good idea, I'll look into it!

This is also a good idea. I'll check it out!
Thanks!
Here's a bunch of Rebel colour schemes:

What I did, was take characters (in my case from Star Wars Rebels) and use their color pallets as inspiration for individual squads.
You could take your favorite character, break it down into a few main colors, and use those colors for your army.
Well, we never see or get a description of troops specifically outfitted to be stationed at Crait because the Alliance is really not at all like the Empire. The Resistance flees to Crait from D'Qar (but I'm not even sure that was the specific location they were fleeing to; it was almost like it just happened as it was convenient due to previous jumps and where they ended up and could get to expediently) and in the early days of the Rebellion, they are just on Crait to basically hide from the Empire so it's not like they are an established planetary force that would already have specific colored gear to match. So you really have two choices: the usual rag-tag collection of colored uniforms or make your own color palette.
For the later, I think you have several options to make the figures really pop on the Crait themed bases: black/red/grey or cream/red/grey. I'd try a dark grey for the pants with either choice. You can do dark red jackets with cream shirts or black jackets with dark red shirts. Or try out cream colored jackets and dark red shirts. Glossy black boots; cream colored helmets with a dark red or black band around them. Or do a combo of all three to help differentiate each specific unit.

Regarding Crait there are very few Rebel Troopers shown in the Storms of Crait(?) comic but those that do appear have dark brown jackets and trousers with black shirts. No helmets are seen, but they'd probably be the same as the jacket based on how the colour schemes for Rebels normally work.

You know, I hadn't really considered making a color pallet to match Crait, but it's not a bad idea. I even have an overstock of scarlet red vallejo paint... which I used to base my minis for Crait.
I'm thinking I may do a scheme similar to this.

I dig it. I think you have a winner.
The thing with the Rebels is you really can do what you wish and it still fits the theme of them being "freedom fighters thrown together from all walks of life to oppose the Empire".

So this is how they turned out.... I really like how they look.
I did mine in jungle camo, but Ive seen some GREAT desert/Afrika Corps looking ones.

Going to do my Rebel Soldiers up in Tam's colors.
One of these days, I think I'm going to paint a rebel army in my old high school colors, and repaint and rename a commander as one of the hometown historical figures.

Dunno if it matters but I always share this video too. For most squads, painting them any better than this usually doesn't pay off in my experience.
