SSD best guess of release date?

Well... Would YOU? It's the priceiest expansion for any tabletop wargame I saw so far. You can't field more than one in your fleet so even if every Armada player buys in, they will sell far less than of other expansions. Nobody buys two SSDs but many buy two ISDs, MC80s etc.

But there has been a german version of Chimaera! And who will buy two of that?

I just saw on Amazon yesterday a March 29th date for release. I will try and get a screenshot to post.

Amazon is just guessing. March 29th is simply the last business day of Q1 (Q1 being the quarter that FFG has said they will release the SSD). They don't know any more than we do.

The seller was FFG, not some third party reseller if that matters at all.

I get ya! But I think my point still stands. It's not really a release date. Its just saying it will be released in Q1. To support my idea, FFG release dates are almost always on a Thursday. March 29th is a Friday. It doesn't really add up to anything other than saying that that's the last business day of Q1.

So...I think it will be released before that. If you see that date move to 6/30, that means it's slipped to a Q2 release. ;)

OK, after so many answers I jsut have to ask: Why would you buy more than one? You can't field more than one, they are insanely expensive, they are so big you probably need a new shelf for each one to store... So, why?

Son't misunderstand me, I love Armada, I'm collecting both sides and I have some ships I never had the chance to use in action, but I still can't justify to buy two SSDs.

In a standard 400 point game. But the SSD expansion is explicitly encouraging us to run larger-point games (not least by having two ships that aren't playable in 400-points, and not practical even in 500-point CC).

If people are going to be running >500 point games, why not go all-in for 1000-point games, or more?

I'd play a 1000+pt battle. Multiple Players would likely be needed at a time, and you'd have to allow for multiple activations at once per side.

I’m a casual player, I’ve never played in a tournament. My group pretty much already play at 700 points per side so 2 ssds plus some fighters plus a a smaller escort vessel should fit. We may increase to 1000 points once the ssd comes out.

the SSD will be released when pigs fly

I personally am buying 3, but that's because I run massive narrative-based games where some ships come in stupid quantities. I also run custom material, so one of those SSDs will become the Lusankya. The third has a homebrew story to it, which will lead it to getting repainted a deep crimson, with the "wings" getting a the Imperial emblem in white.

Wow, only 3? I'm happy you have that kind of disposable income to waste. I paid for mine in full in September because my Christmas spending can go a bit too far sometimes.

So my guess is FFG will release this in early March. It hasn't even changed on the status board yet. To be honest I'm surprised it's not "at the printer" yet. The boat trip will be a while. Like a month. Unless they have forgotten to update the status of it I keep seeing the date pushed later and later into March. It would be great to get some free swag because of preordering it. Basically the only reason I ordered it through the store. Besides that hoping to show the other nerds the awesomeness and get more people to play. I wish I was in a bigger Armada community.

Grammer correction.

Stuff "In Development" on the Upcoming page can get to Stores very quickly sometimes. I used to keep a spreadsheet of the timings there (when things changed, how long they spent in each section), but don't have much data on the In Development step. However my impression is that "In Development" also often covers "At the Printer", and when something new launches it tends to get through "Shipping Now" quite quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got an article this Friday (or sometime this week) and then a release on 31 January (which is an obvious target for them), or maybe 28 February.

Also worth nothing that there are only 4 things listed as "At the Printer" at the moment - and only the Game of Thrones Catan Expansion has any miniatures in it (unpainted, it looks like). Unless they're having a major shut-down of their factories some of the "In Development" stuff must be at the manufacturer. That could be X-Wing 2.3 (which is conspicuously absent from the Upcoming page), but probably includes the SSD.

[ Edit: the SSD is the only thing currently listed as "In Development" or "At the Printer" that requires painting. X-Wing 2.3 should be in there as well, though. There's also a particularly long "Awaiting Reprint" list, so either the SSD is taking up all their painters, or they're having problems with the factory. ]

The SSD was announced August 3. The Core Set, Wave 5 and Wave 7 also had August announcement dates, August 8, August 5, and August 25 respectively. The Core Set took 231 days to release. Wave 5 was 139 days, while Wave 7 was 160 days. This averages to a production time of roughly 177 days. So, January 26, 2019 becomes the approximate release day for the SSD when you apply the average to the August 3 announcement. This date fits nicely within FFG's "early first quarter 2019" time schedule, but this is all theoretical as design delays, production delays, and shipping delays do happen. So, the SSD arrives precisely when it's meant to, and I'm passing the time by thoroughly studying what has been published about the ship and working up thematic builds and play scenarios for it when it finally hits my game table.

I am seriously thinking about buying a 2nd Chimaera expansion.

But besides people buyings 2nd copies, I think more people will buy their first Chimaera over their first SSD. The price tag on the SSD will keep plenty of people from even buying their first.

Do you plan to post pictures of it?

The SSD will release tomorrow * .

* - 'tomorrow' relative to the day before it is released.

Wave 2 had listed dates from retailers that moved several times, due to product delays or something. Any date shown on an online retailer is just a guesstimate. Whenever it moves to shipping on the upcoming page (which is shamefully outdated) we will have a solid release date.

Oh, absolutely! Once I get the ship and begin the painting process, I'll be posting progress pics.

I'm actually thinking about what kind of counter ship should I buy. I would need a rebel ship to keep the fleets in balance...

Pelta.

It's the same speed.

Are you talking about the tournament versions or the epic versions?

That is the most evil reply someone could come up with.

Whatever. I jusut love to buy something from the other faction if I strengthen one. I'm thinking about another pickle...

I like to have balanced sides also. Pickles are good and the more the merrier. My analysis of the competitive version of the SSD has concluded that the ship is basically a dual ISD build package. So, I'll be using at least 3 Rebel Cruisers against it as I use a ratio of 3 Cruisers to 2 ISDs in my fleet balance calculations.

I'd like to introduce you to a little phrase we call "diminishing returns"
