System Open Series question

By Swisherfan, in X-Wing Organized Play

Hi, very casual x-wing player and my friends are looking at ramping up tournament attendance with the new 2.0 version. My question for events like the System Open Series:

1. Are you expected to bring your mat?

2. Are they mostly supporting a particular format (Extended, Second Edition, Variant)?

Take care,

Chris

The System Opens are very big events with >100 people. Normally events that size have mats but people usually bring one in case it's needed. I'm pretty sure the System Opens are all Extended format, whereas the Hyperspace events (starting in Jan) will be 2nd Ed. (List of Hyperspace legal stuff is included in the latest point lists on the main X-Wing 2.0 product page.

+1 Everything @Cpt Hellcat said. I just went to my first Systems Open at PAX Unplugged last weekend. Here’s some simple notes:

  1. They had mats (but keeping one in your car / hotel room isn’t a bad idea)
  2. The Open and Qualifier were Extended, but there were Hangar Bay Pods for the other formats (Yavin, No Glory, Second Edition).
  3. FFG has stated that official events with Hyperspace in the name will be Hyperspace format.
  4. Check out ListFortress.com to get an idea of what you’ll be flying against. Lots of Dash/Roark, Redline/Whisiper, and Boba/Palob at the Open.
  5. Read this (and the linked pages at the bottom): https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/op/x-wing/system-open-series/
  6. Also read this https://www.thehyperloops.com/paxusystemopen/
  7. Don’t skimp on sleep.
  8. Have fun! I lost most of my games, but I know so much more about the game now, and am planning to attend some other big events in the future.
