well he does something at the end. Literally R2-D2 does only one thing but not after just about everyone else does all of the leg work. I mean he didn't even go see Luke, he just sat in the Falcon until Luke came to him then he did only one thing.

I bet we will see R2-D2 do one more thing next movie but that is it!
