SLAM + Pattern Analyzer

By Maui., in X-Wing Rules Questions

If you SLAM a red maneuver, can you then use Pattern Analyzer to perform an action before gaining the stress from said maneuver?

Yup.

Assuming you mean using Advanced SLAM to get the extra action in... I wonder, though, could you perform a red maneuver, pattern analyze to SLAM, then execute a different maneuver? For example, Black 1 could 3-talon roll, then slam into a 3-hard turn, to effectively stay in one place while rotating 90 degrees. My guess would be that this would NOT work, because you'd be executing a SLAM action outside of the Perform Action Step.

No, you can't SLAM from Pattern Analyzer because the rule of SLAM say you can't execute it as an action given by an effect / upgrade:

"A ship can perform a SLAM action only as the ship’s one action during the Perform Action step. Therefore a ship cannot perform a SLAM action if it is granted an action from another effect."

In theories, yes right now, nothing prevent you from gaining an action out of doing a red SLAM... Pattern Analyzer does not care about your action step as it did before... way to go FFG by trying to fix the wording you made another kind of advance SLAM :)

If you are flying Nien this is possible. You can perform a Red manuever, PA action (linked possibly), clear stress, Action SLAM(Only location in the order of operation you can do it), Red manuever, PA action (linked if not previously), clear stress, Advanced SLAM action. Clear stress.

All assuming Nien lands within a targets infront of him.

For example: "4-Straight into 4-Koiogarn into Pattern Analyzer action into the stress from the Koiogarn turn" is a valid sequence. So long as SLAM is on your normal action in the perform action step, SLAMing into a red move and then taking an action from Pattern Analyzer will work.

Just 4-K back and forth in front of someone. I don't think it'd really be good , but it's hilarious . With Debris Gambit, you could get Focus, Lock, and Evade (and maybe throw in a barrel roll).

Talon role twice passed them. TR, BR as PA action then SLAM action or TR, boost as PA action, SLAM action. Additionally if you have dare devil you can hard into the boost and SLAM TR again. Lots of options for Nien.

Well, aside from the limitation of only being able to SLAM once in a given turn, since it's an action and all. ;)

True. Though SLAMing in behind you opponents formation is hardly where they'll want you to be.

Giving Nien can still 4K or Talon every round as long as he gets into arc, plus he can at least barrel or boost with PA to assure he gets arc. He still gets his actually action to reposition again. He can still get 3 actions a turn without stress. That is pretty awesome.

It's once in a game, since it's from the Black One title... ;)

SLAM ()

Pilots can SLAM by activating their SubLight Acceleration Motors and careening through space at incredible speeds. A ship performs a action by performing the following steps:

  1. The player chooses a maneuver from the ship's dial . The maneuver must match the speed of the maneuver that the ship executed this round.
  2. The ship executes the chosen maneuver.
  3. The ship gains one disarm token.

A ship can perform a action only as the ship's one action during the Perform Action step. Therefore a ship cannot perform a action if it is granted an action from another effect.

  • A action fails if the final position of the ship would cause it to flee .
  • When a ship performs a action, it has performed an action as well as executed a maneuver for the sake of abilities.
