Even
I
liked that movie... It's the only new film I saw three or four times in the theaters and own. I believe I've described it as "needs a PhD dissertation in American Film History to adequately describe how awesome it was". So I'm certainly not against releasing
R1
models. But I think the release order from FFG is wonky as heck. Though I've also said,
so I should probably try harder to cut FFG some slack
, that release schedules are often dictated by factors beyond the company's control. It can be as simple as, an artist gets sick, misses a deadline, and someone else's finished side project has to be sent into production instead, etc.
QuoteIf this "overlap" was a bothersome to others as it was to you, then WOTC and the D20 system would still be popular today
I don't see how that follows, or maybe I don't understand what you mean. Regardless of popularity, what I recall from the time of cancellation was that Hasbro decided Lucasfilm was charging too much for the Star Wars miniatures license and dropped them. Hasbro seemed to be penny-pinching that game into the ground though, what with the quality of the sculpting and painting getting generally worse instead of better as time went on. The rules were problematic: too simple in theory, too convoluted in practice. It still had a good run as minis games go, nothing lasts forever.

And models that lend themselves to assorted backstories, broad categories of play styles, and the like. Ie, it would have been more interesting to me if the first cheap generic commander had been released before the third expensive unique commander.
I all seriousness though if nothing else is forthcoming I'll probably convert a squad of the Death Troopers into imperial-hired "armored bounty hunters". Put rebel heads on them. Sell the headless rebel corpses on eBay for cheap? But it's going to be a very long time, in the world of hobbies, before these actually hit store shelves, so who knows. By then actual mercs of some sort may be announced.
