Animals as characters

I’m probably remembering this wrong, but weren’t there instances (in legends at least) were the force itself was so strong in a creature. That it resulted in said creature gaining sentience?

You'd have to ask someone else, as I didn't read a lot of the Legend material, as I found most of it incredibly poor quality writing. But I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn there are examples of the Force doing that. I suspect the most common example would be some kind of sith-alchemy, harsh, fast mutation kind of thing, to give an animal intelligence, as that makes for quick and easy foot soldiers for a story. But a planet with a Light-side nexus, and a species that happened to live in that habitation, passively improving over generations from the aura effect of the Light-side spot? Seems totally in spirit with the franchise.

Again, I'm pulling from outside the franchise, but the symbiotic relationship between the Navi and their big tree could be a perfect example of that type of growth. They were a tree-dwelling species, that mostly nested in that massive tree. It was alive and sentient (to some degree), and they benefited from that intelligence, eventually developing it themselves. This lead them to have a deep, spiritual bond to the tree, that provided most of their needs for them for millions of years.

I’d forgotten about sith alchemy, i just remembered two creatures from the comics about the “great hyperspace war” (i think that was the name of the series)

Master Thon is the dino looking fella, and master Ooroo is the mindflayerisgue one.

Yeah, and there was an actual TREE that was apparently a jedi master. I remember one of the tales of the jedi comics having a scene with 2 kids tied to a tree, and you think they are captives. But apparently they were padawans, going through some final ritual or something, tied to the tree, who was their Jedi master. So...yeah...if a tree can be smart enough to be a jedi MASTER, you can have a smarter-than-normal Loth-cat :P

Those are all sentient to begin with. I’d say the only potential example of the Force granting an otherwise non-sentient animal sentience is the great white Loth Wolf from Rebels .

I am well aware that their entire race is sentient already. My point is that if it's "in canon" for a freaking tree, a TREE, to be sentient, then a Loth-cat can also be as well, and it's hardly breaking the setting to do so.

The tree in question is Ood Bnar, who is a member of a sentient race, as well. Forget their name off the top of my head. I don't know of any Legends or canon examples of the Force granting a non-sentient creature sentience. Nothing to stop you from doing it in your game, though. It's a fun idea.

They’re called Neti.

Cat stumbles through a force nexus and is touched by the hand of fate, giving it a new level of sentience compared to its kin, as well as who knows what other powers. The force flows through everything etc etc, and maybe it has a great plan for a small being that most would overlook. Or maybe it was a pet of the jedi temple or something similar. Someone hung an ancient pendant around its collar not knowing what it did, and boom, sentient cat. Depending on the creature, you could probably use actual npc stats to start with, and then just level them using standard rules as they progress.

Well, everyone loves Lee so far. Her personality and speaking ablitiy is a dead match to Yoda. Most adorable thing too. "An idiot you are, Calm I should be but laughing I am because dumb you are!" Kind of thing. Everyone is loving her so far. PLUS, nobody expected her to make a friend in an Imperial garrison.... muchless the HEAD GUY of said garrison
