New Ascension Transition Packages

By revak, in Dark Heresy House Rules

Hi there!

I read a few times in this forum that there are not enough Transition Packages for Ascension. So why not make some ourselves? As I didn't see any at Dark Reign yet, I'll post here.

Transition Package Title: Magos Ambassador

Used for which Ascended Career : Magos

"Is that your daughter, Governor? A charming child. Ha ha ha."
-Magos Ambassador Horst Gortaen at the reception for the newly appointed Governor Feldrin

Description: Whether you have taken on the task of gaining knowledge about human interaction or you have decided to sacrifice your getting closer to the perfect form of the machine for the greater good of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the powers that be have granted you a boon and a burden. You have received extensive training in the social fields and been designated an emissary for the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Prerequisite and restrictions : Fellowship (30) and you may not already have or ever take any talents or bionic augmentations that cause a loss of Fellowship. If you go against this, you gain the Talent Enemy ( All Factions of the Adeptus Mechanicus) as you are wasting the resources that were invested in you.

Effects :
Characteristics : You gain access to those Fellowship Advances: Simple (750), Intermediate (1000), Trained (2500) and Expert (3000)
Skills : Trade (Valet), Performer (Dancer)
Etiquette : As the Noble Born Trait, see Inquisitor's Handbook P15

While I am ashamed to admit it, there is evidence for just such a character in the Dan Abnett novel "Titanicus", I just can't remember his title. A Tech-Adept who's sole purpose is to liase between the Mechanicus and Imperial authorities. He was quite charming, and appeared more human than machine, yet he had the authority ... and the respect among his peers ... of a Magos. Quite an interesting character. gui%C3%B1o.gif

In fact, I modeled my latest DH character after him. He has been a total blast to play. The other characters' reaction to him has been quite amusing. happy.gif

Definitely... it's Executor Fetial (IIRC). All implants are subdermal so to keep unaugmented humans comfortable. I always wondered why this wasn't statted up as an Alternate Career Rank for Tech-Priests. As they would be the most useful for the Inquisition.

The transition package is okay for the most part; though I would still simply house rule that any Tech-Priest can purchase Fellowship advances at the costs described for the Explorator in Rogue Trader . After all, they really are the same things deep down at the core of their beings.

The Prerequisite of Fellowship 30 is fine, but the penalty for dropping below it seems a touch harsh. I'd almost rather give the TP a +5 or +10 to Fellowship, as they are being invested with a specific responsibility to the Adeptus Mechanicus. If resources are beign invested and expended on them, seems a bit logical that the TP would have been put through "finishing school." I like the Etiquette trait; definitely a handy addition.

Also, I think the skills would be more appropriately Charm (Fel) and Scrutiny (Per) ; being as those are both very important skills for social characters which the Tech-Priest does not ordinarily have access to.

Overall; Revak, the package has merit. It's also a fabulous jumping off point for others to work up something similar for their own games. I give it a strong B .

I guess I should pick up a copy of Titanicus...

As for the going below Fellowship (30), I didn't mean there should be punishment for accidentally losing some. Only if you chose to lose Fellowship you should face the consequences.

Oh, I also forgot to prohibit the Rite of Pure Thought. Even though it doesn't technically cause a loss of Fellowship, in the fluff it 'freaks people out'...

The Exporator is a different breed of Tech Priest, however, in my opinion, so I chose to not allow my PCs the access to Fellowship advances that way.

Thank you for the good grade ;-) I was actually hoping this would inspire to post more packages in this thread. So if anyone feels the desire to post, please be my guest :-)

I will probably have to write one or two new transition packages for my group, but it has not yet come up (still about 2 missions away from Ascention, give or take). I will be sure to post anything I end up conjuring up at that time.

I like this package gui%C3%B1o.gif . A logical extension to Bonded Emissary. With some polishing it should be fine. Maybe something like this?

- Prequisites: Fel 30, no "Rite of Pure Thought".

- Skills: Charm and Scrutiny

- Attributes: Fel +5

- Traits: Gain Peer ( X )

I like this also... Though I think they should also pick up some sort of Rival of whatever sect of the Mechanicus that is more puritanical about augmetics and the purity of the machine.

Just my 2 cents. But overall, very nice.
