Order Border Patrol

By Artemus Maximus, in Warhammer Invasion Deck Building

Has anyone attempted a deck design focusing on Infiltrate quest with Order? Caradryan, Second Sight, Disdain, Iron Discipline, Bright Wiz, Infiltrate!, Demolition!, return to hand all seem like they'd go well....

Interesting concept, I may have to give this a try.

Ancient Map certainly makes Infiltrate! easier to pull off on a consistent basis. It's still a funky card in that you can't play it too early because it costs two barrels (three if you have to Map it), but if you play it too late it doesn't gain any momentum. I think it is still generally a win condition that you play in Order decks to beat other Order decks and control Destruction decks. Dark Elves might be able to get some use out of it, too. If you can make it to turn seven or eight against Skaven, you are almost certainly going to win; Infiltrate! does not help you get there. I don't think it's generally a good idea to build your entire deck around it because its effectiveness depends so much on what your opponent is doing.

Infiltrate! is generally going to be pretty good against Dwarves and High Elves because they are trying to take the game long themselves. Empire is a mixed bag; if they spam City Gates and Huntsmen early, they are very vulnerable to decking. But, they can regulate their own card draw with Pistoliers/Shrine, and have Forced March to shut down Infiltrate! Destruction control decks often get greedy with card draw, trying to win via card advantage. However, they also have removal to reset Infiltrate! if it becomes a problem, which is why it's nice to have a few "questers" that make unappealing removal targets. Guys with "leaves play" abilities, cheap guys with high HP, etc.

I posted a Dwarf deck in this thread that would probably be shooting to win via Infiltrate! a fair portion of the time.

ah ok thanks that helps :)

with this i was thinking maybe an elf board, Iron Discipline & Bright Wiz to protect questing unit on Infiltrate so you can try to avoid a restart, Disdains to counter tactics that could also harm that unit that dont specifically targtet him, Caradryan & Second Sight for further control. The rest should probably be defense oriented?

From a HE board, I'd say just stick a Dragonmage on it and forget it, but you can't really have him going down to the Deathmaster. However, I'm not sure I like the plan of paying four for a Bright Wizard Apprentice AND continually saving two barrels to use him, either. Iron Discipline with some permanent Empire icons is probably worth it, at the least. You probably don want to use a big chunk of the deck to defend the guy on Infiltrate!, anyway, since over half of the decks out there are going to be ignoring him.

As for the rest of the deck: Caradryan is a good mix of a fairly immediate benefit and decking help, so I would definitely run a couple. Runesmith and Forced March are good decking cards if you want to splash. But you gotta leave room for the stall cards. Flames of the Phoenix would reset Infiltrate!, so it might not be ideal, but you want to go for pretty much everything else: Dragonmage/Defend Tor Aendris, Gift of Aenarion, Steel's Bane, Valaya, and Disdain for Mob Up/RipThirster. Dragon Prince is a decent rush control card. Banish/Radiant Gaze with Wake the Dragons is another option. A bit more Empire splash would give you Intervention (with Swordmasters, maybe); Dwarf splash would give you Keystone Forge and cheaper Valayas.

excellent point about Bright Wiz & Iron Discipline & pointing out the fact that they'll be ignored anyway - i agree. yeah i don't like the infiltrate tactic much anymore either the more i think about it, but then again, nor Flames - would reset infiltrate quest :(

will continue to work on, thanks for your thoughts :)
