BB astromech - Poe - Black one

By kenoslaw, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Can I perform a SLAM action triggered with Poes’ ability?

You trigger BB after revealing the maneuver so technically it gives you info on potential SLAM speed. In 1.0 there was a restriction that Slam couldn’t be a free action, i haven’t found anything like that in 2.0.

It lets you avoid bumps, you bump with slam and then run away with dialed maneuver of the same speed shedding stress (as it has to be blue to trigger BB) and doing other actions :p

Since the term "free action" was removed from second edition, SLAM was updated with this text to enforce the same restriction, " A ship can perform a slam action only as the ship's one action during the Perform Action step. Therefore a ship cannot perform a slam action if it is granted an action from another effect. " So you would not be able to trigger a SLAM action from another action.

But you can BB Roll to a Boost then Maneuver then SLAM right?

Correct.

I had some Poe stunts pulled on me yesterday:

BB-8 plus Daredevil, so he does a 90 degree boost, then 3 straight to clear the stress, then lock and focus.

Interesting combo really, that lets Poe go in any direction.

Next round he did a 3-straight to clear stress, then a Black 1 SLAM K-turn to avoid my proton bomb.

With Black 1 you can even choose to be disarmed - or get an ion.

This is super flexible.

To branch off this question, I don't see anything which would prevent Poe from using his ability to take an action after the SLAM. So Poe could SLAM then focus/lock/boost/br, right?

You almost surely get Poe's ability for an action. There are some cases where it wouldn't happen. For example, you SLAM into a red move, or overlap a Debris Field. Bumping a ship or overlapping an Asteroid shouldn't matter.

If he has Primed Thrusters, the red move or debris wouldn't even matter. The bumping a ship or overlapping an asteroid is really interesting...I hadn't considered that. SLAM into someone and get a mod or BR off or boost past? Yes, please.

I thought SLAM says it has to be the only action during Perform Action?

No it says it cannot be performed except as your action during the perform action step. It doesn't limit other actions.

On it cannot be performed as part of some other action in some other phase. Got it

It can't even be performed e.g. by Poe from his ability.
