I played an opponent with a bear flute deck yesterday, and a random fresh deck of mine. I hadn’t seen a flute deck in action so I suggested 3 chains. This was countered by 5 and I let them play it.
They absolutely annihilated me. They got 1st player and mulligan into flute, had 2 bears up on round 2 and kept recycling them. I couldn’t keep any creatures out, and had no artifact control.
My question is, how do I best anticipate a decks effectiveness from a minute of looking at a deck list? What are your key takeaways when comparing it to yours when you bid chains?
In hindsight, my deck was woefully mismatched against their flute, not just because the flute, and I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Thoughts on chain bidding strategies?
